There are so many problems in each individual society; however, they are more dominant in the western world. These problems continue to increase every decade, which brings the public's attention to it. An important, and serious issues that has been in the past, are now current American political, social and economic scenes today. Such issues are like child abuse, abortion, gun control, and drugs and much more are mostly social problems affecting the middle and poor classes.

One of today's principle focuses is of child welfare agencies. Child abuse is being disowned of love, tenderness, and compassion that are necessary qualities human beings require when they are born on this earth. The irony these days is putting more attention and focus on this problem but people achieved less to solve it. Furthermore, this topic has affected the legal justice system, blocking the rights of families and individuals. The public reaction to such horrors of child abuse, the public welfare changed from a system serving a wide range of disadvantaged children into a designed welfare mainly to protect children from beating. The challenge for child welfare in the next years must be to "deploy" its resources, morals economically and politically to encourage the welfare of all children.

Another issue that brings public attention is abortion. Many see that there is that "no right is more basic than the right to live." Sometimes though exceptions are considered. For instance, rape is the hardest denials of liberty, and forcing a woman to bear a rapist's child is an assault on her humanity. Just as abortion may seem

Unattempted, so does her pregnancy. "Whatever compromises we might achieve in our struggle with abortion, it should be clear by now that the debate itself…if we allow ourselves to listen closely to its arguments...many shed valuable light on many of the things we believe, and why." Women played an important and historical role by the movement that risen and came forth within an established political system to legalize abortion. The movement was an expanded social sector. A logical description of the American political scene seems obvious that the issue of legalized abortion can be viewed as an important factor of the Cultural War, where one side is pro-abortion and the others who are rather more traditional are anti-abortion. It's becoming a political conflict.

Further, gun control has been a recent dispute this decade. Gun-control implies restriction, those on opposite sides of the issue say that some individuals wish to see laws passed to make it more difficult to obtain guns; whereas, the other side may wish laws be passed to make it easier to obtain guns. Guns today have become a part of life to some, regardless whether it is for hunting or target shooting or killing or other means. People who oppose gun laws are often looked upon by the public eyes, as groups willing to endanger the public to enjoy their own desires, but the public in this sense are stereotypical. The problem is not the guns but the people who are reckless. If more guns were to be put in the hands of responsible adults, society would be a much safer environment for the people. It is expected that the gun-control debate will get the public

opinion every time an act of violence has occurred. If new laws are passed, they will be challenged in courts.

Lastly drug use, which has spread not only in the western states, but it's more of a global issue that most societies suffer from. Three branches of government have postponed the constitutional and nonconstitutional limits on exercising of governmental power in the field of drug enforcement. This is bad enough if the 'war on drug' had worked effectively to control the supply of illegal drugs. Many critics of the U.S. drug policy think that the 'wars of drug' is being lost. The reason is because of the number of Americans who are addicted are in the millions and still increasing. "The Federal funding for drug treatment is less than half of what is spent on law enforcement." Most Americans see that reducing drug abuse should still remain a national priority for its seriousness. The struggle to reexamine drug abuse as a health problem led to efforts to challenge the criteria of success to rate drug control policies.

In conclusion, most of these social problems mentioned have become a "normative feature of American life." It happens so often, it does not shock the public because they are familiar with such issues. The tone of each book reviewed was very contradictory; therefore, are many opposing views. There is no right or wrong, but it depends on how the public may justify an issue or scene in a society. Knowingly, with the current problems the American society faces it may go against the long-standing hopes and aspirations that make up the American dream. However, in every nation there

is a dream, and in every nation there are complications. The trick is to make as many dreams possible come true; the key is persistence.

You're sitting in your seat, waiting for the last bell to sound. The last thing on your mind is heading off to college, but instead it is on what to wear to the party tonight. The summer flies by with friends, maybe a summer job to fund all the activities that you partook in over the hot summer months. Then it hits you, I'm in college.

There are several key facts that go into being a good college student. Remember that you are off on your own so you need to learn to prioritize. Your time is your most valuable asset. When starting your first semester make sure not to overwhelm yourself. Take a light class load so that you have plenty of time to study and let's face it, hang out with friends. You are in a new environment, away from parental units, and experimenting new things.

The first key to being a college student is going to class, going to class, going to class. You will be amazed at what this task can do for you. I can't tell you how many times I have been on the bubble and passed because I went to every class. Teacher's notice when you put forth the effort. There was a class last semester where even though I tried and went to all the study sessions I was having trouble learning how to apply all the formulas. I went to the teacher concerned that I may not pass the test. He took me into his office and helped me study for the final and said, "Rashundra don't worry about passing the test, you will pass this class." I did study hard that night, and I did pass the class. As another example, I had a friend that was really good at math and he never went to class. The first test he made B's and thought he could slack off and not go to class. He failed the last tests and ended up with a D in the course. He went to talk to the teacher and the teacher said sorry, keep the D.

Help with essay on How to be a successful College StudentAnother key to be a good college student is to know what you want. This means take classes that will help you get your degree. If you want to be a Business major you don't need to be taking a bunch of history courses. You also need to make sure that you are not changing your major all the time. This will make you have to take more and more classes and will take you longer to reach your goals. Before getting started you need to think long and hard as to what it is you really want to get out of college. You also need to make sure that you pick the best college for you. Do some research; don't settle for the first school that comes around. You do not want to transfer from school to school. Even if you stay in the same major, many schools may have different requirements and some of the classes that you took may not transfer. An advisor can be a tremendous help. They can help you map out your entire college career.

This next key has nothing to do with actually going to school. You need to keep a steady social life going while you are in school. You will meet friends that you will keep for life as well as making connections that could help you find a job. You don't want to look back and say I wish I could have done things different. If you attend a college that has sports, go to the games. Partake in the activities that the school has brought to you. Most schools if you are a student will give you free tickets to their events. I had a friend that went to Florida State University and she was able to watch her team win the national championship in 1. It has nothing to do with the education that she received but it is something neat that she will never forget. Being social also helps take some of the pressure off of school. Everyone needs to relax and let loose from time to time. I love to go out and celebrate after a test. You have spent countless

hours reading and studying that after the test is done you need to release all the tension that has built up.

The next key is to always ask questions. Not only does this help you to better understand the material, it shows the teacher that you are interested in what it is they are saying. Going back to the math class, I would always ask to make sure that I was doing the formulas right. I would also ask why we had to learn all of these formulas that I would never use again. I got one of the best answers and that was it teaches you to think. Asking questions also help you better learn the material even you feel you have already grasped the basic concepts. The reason for this is that there may be more than one way to explain the concept and with each interpretation gains you more knowledge.

You're now in college. Make sure to do the best that you can and never give up. So many people bypass college and miss out on many wonderful experiences. I hope this paper will make you appreciate what a remarkable chance you are getting, and to make the best of it.

The autombile, much like the T.V., was something everyone once dreamed of owning, and thanks to the post-war economic boom of the Fifties everyone could. Unlike the automobiles of the Forties, which showed a utilitarian, military influenced design, the automobiles of the Fifties spoke of a much more progressive style. This essay will speak about the design influences that made the automobile a much more attractive purchase, as well as the effects that an automobile driven society has had on our lives since.

The event that arguably had the single greatest influence on the evolution of the automobile took place on October 14, 147. It was on this day, in the skies over Victorville, CA, that Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. From this point on the car consuming public wanted nothing but speed and style. Cars with bigger engines and improved aerodynamics were the featured attraction at the GM sponsored Motorama in 14. This was an exhibition of the new ideas and new technologies that would be brought to bear on the car market. Four years later, what could be argued (by me) to be the most monumental achievement of Western Civilization was released. For it was on June 0, 15 at the assembly plant in Flint, Michigan that the first Corvette was rolled off the assembnly line. Everyone of these American legends featured a white paint job with red interior, all fiberglass body, and a chrome grille. The first incarnation of this vehicle had no side windows or exterior door handles. This evolution in auto-design is something we bear witness to everyday as we drive the streets of South Florida, however there were several design influences of the era that have not made it into the working vocabulary of autodesigners today. The most remarkable of these would be the fins that were a staple of every Cadillac of the era. Reminiscent of the dorsal fin of an airplane, this is something we do not see much of today. Some concept designs of the day did make it into the history books however, such as the 155 Lincoln Futura. A concept car with a standard bubble-top and 00 horsepower V-8, this design was sold several years later to a customizer in California, who turned it into the first ever Batmobile. These concept cars were designed with the intent of testing out radical design ideas on the public to see if they would work on a mass-produced scale. Needless to say many of the features of the day (such as dual-cockpits, or joystick controls, as was the case with 150 Firebird III from GM) didnt appeal to the mass market and were forever lost on the cutting room floor.

The sheer popularity of the automobile in the 150s led to many changes in the landscape of America. The focus on comfort and convienience in your vehicle during the 150s led to many more people taking the ever-popular roadtrip. This was made practical as we started construction of our National Highway System in 156. The increase in the number of people on the road led to the start of todays motel industry. These offered a cheap, clean place to spend the night and soon began to outpace the small mom and pop bed and breakfasts of the 0s and 40s. The roadtrippers wanted not just accomodations that catered to them, they wanted food as well. The decline of the diner, and the proliferation of fast-food chains and drive-thru windows (as well as ill-hyphenated words) can probably be traced back to this desire of the consumer of the day. In addition still to the motels, fast-food chains, and roads that were built to accomodate the motorist, gas stations sprung up everywhere. Unlike the gas stations of today, the majority of these were full-service establishments, once again catering to the motorist, and making them feel as comfortable as possible in their vehicle.

The changes that have resulted in America, and in so much as we are a global role model, the world, as a result of the proliferation of automobiles havent all been good. As a matter of fact, other than the convenience factor of having the means to quickly get from point A to point B very little good has come as the result of the automobile. I dont mean to downplay the importance of quick and convenient travel, it has led to the type of fast paced economy that America enjoys today. However we now suffer from a great dependance on automobiles and therefore on gasoline for them. A natural resource with a limited supply, the majority of which is controlled by the none too altruistic countries of the Middle East. Sure we also have great reserves of oil that will power our vehicles for years to come, but true independance from oil and gasoline means finding an alternative energy source. Something the R & D teams of today are only beginning to truly consider. As much as the automobile industry has brought to us, in the end they have only served to help us to further pollute the planet that we call home.

The Passion of Joan of Arc

The influence of cinema is often overlooked due to the entertainment value it possesses. There are very few films that can emotionally and intellectually captivate an audience in this contemporary era due to the inflated emphasis on special effects and revenue. The silent era in cinema was able to accentuate aspects of a film that many sound films following have diluted or dismissed. The Passion of Joan of Arc exhibits this unique accentuation. This film is free from choppy dialogue and overbearing special effects that can be attributed to the simple time period that it is from. The Passion of Joan of Arc enthralls its audience through potent facial expressions, clever symbolism, and a poignant score.

The silent communication that Joan conveys to the audience is full of expressions that a monologue could never do justice to. The audience gets a close up view of Joan's face, and is able to see every hint of emotion, from the mere twitch of an eye, to a curl of a nostril. Before analyzing the expressions themselves, one must first recognize the direction that the camera, which allows the viewer's to be encompassed in the same emotional pool as Joan herself. This extreme close up of Joan's visage allows any viewer to see every facet of her face no matter how insignificant. The audience is aware of Joan's feelings, not through pleads or regrets, but through the quiver of her lower lip and the welling of her eyes. These rather minute actions that her face engages in are the components that this film focuses on in order to create that empathetic stir in the viewer. By interacting all of Joan's emotions through her face and overall demeanor, one cannot help but feel the power of the unspoken word. This unspoken word allows the audience's emotions to be guided by an abstract force rather than direct dialogue. This is something very unique and very commendable because it is virtually absent in all films created today.

In order to reinforce the effectiveness of the absence of dialogue, this film demonstrates a very skillful display of the use of symbolism. There is a particular scene where Joan is confined to her cell for the moment and she sees the shadow of a cross fall upon the floor from the window. As she takes a moment to contemplate, one of her persecutors enters the cell and positions himself over the display of the cross inadvertently. This of course is a message that all of Joan's persecutors are not in God's grace as she is. That particular scene lasts but a mere 0 seconds, and yet it elaborates on the character of Joan and the character of her persecutors. Though this may sound trivial and unimpressive to today's standards, one must consider the time period that this film was conceived in, and the overall relation that this particular scene has to the entire film. Another use of symbolism that the film displays is a skull. This skull is lying on and in the dirt, positioned to where only one eye cavity can be seen. Within this cavity lie dozens of disgusting maggots all contorted and slithering over one another. The skull and maggots here are a symbol for the foreboding death that is to come for Joan. The image of the skull is something that has often been associated with death, but it has never been shot in this way, hence why it is so powerful and influential. It's position, and especially the maggots that infest it, are what make this particular symbol so unique and remarkable.

Since this film is derived from the silent era, one might infer that the absence of a dialogue or monologue could hinder the film, but the compelling score acts as the language of the film. The powerful notes that are expelled from the tongue of the orchestra direct the solemn mood of this film. During each contemplative moment, the music is very low, almost like a whisper, to indicate that Joan is in a deep state of thought and during heighten points of tension, the music roars in a melody of mixed emotion. The score that plays throughout the film was actually not conceived with the film, but rather, inspired by the film. This unique fact displays the impact that The Passion of Joan of Arc has had to many people in the fine arts genre. The movie is essentially directed and guided by the music, for it is what binds the film and creates a certain fluidity from scene to scene.

The Passion of Joan of Arc exhibits a true understanding of how to emotionally attach the audience to the characters. It is a true display of utilizing the power of facial contortions, symbolism, and the effectiveness to a well-written score. These pieces mesh together to create a dazzling display of sorrow while telling a story. The silent era as a whole, laid the foundations for all the films that are created today, and this particular film is the pinnacle display of properly utilizing specific elements to further amplify the tone and mood of what is being shown.

Nature and Today

Ralf Waldo Emerson, was born in Boston, and was the son of William Emerson, a minister of the First Church (Unitarian) of Boston, an American essayist and poet, and a leader of the philosophical movement of transcendentalism. Emerson was influenced by English romanticism, Neoplatonism, and Hinduism. Emerson is noted today for his skill in presenting his thoughts and beliefs eloquently and in poetic language. Nature is regarded today as Emerson's most significant work, offering the essence of his philosophy of transcendentalism, the belief that regards the processes of reasoning as the key to the knowledge of reality. This idealist work opposed the popular Calvinist and materialist views of life at that time, while voicing a plea for freedom of the individual from artificial restraints. In many ways, Emerson's thoughts have influenced the traditions and the everyday life of today's society. The following explains the conflicts between Christianity and Emerson's beliefs, and how some of Emerson's thoughts are at the same time relevant to the conflicts in today's society.

As the leader of the philosophical transcendentalism movement, Emerson taught and influenced the aspects of self-examination in celebration of individualism, while praising the beauties of nature and humankind. Because of these well-expanded, self-centered beliefs, he concluded that everything revolves around mankind, and that we should submit to nothing, in order to come to our own conclusions. "Nature, in its ministry to man, is not only the material, but its process and the result." " All of the parts incessantly work into each other's hands for the profit of man," (Emerson 68). Emerson believed that everything, good or bad, on earth works for the good and profit of man himself. The Bible teaches that all things work out, in our lives, for the glory of God, so that He may be honored. God wants to work through us, for His glory, not ours. In contradiction to Emerson's thought that the world is centered around man, we should, because we are God's creation, submit ourselves to God, and live for His purpose instead of our own.

In part one of Nature, Emerson says, "There I feel that nothing can befall me in life'no disgrace, no calamity (leaving me my eyes), which nature cannot repair," (Emerson 66). From this one might conclude that an individual needs no one, and that there is nothing that can hinder us that "nature" cannot fix. According to Christian belief, nothing can hinder our walk with God but natural or carnal things. Nature was not created by God, to simply fix things. The Christian belief is that we are to submit ourselves to God, for he is above all. God is the "Author and Finisher of our faith," (Hebrews 1) and he is the one to turn to when we have issues in our lives, not nature. Nature was created by God, not to be worshiped, but to be marveled as God's creation.

Along with the many conflicts of Emerson's thoughts with the Bible, he also had many relevant ideas that still relate to today's society as it did in his day. For example, in Emerson's introduction to Nature, he explains that, "We have theories of races and of functions, but scarcely yet a remote approach to an idea of creation," (Emerson 65). In today's society, we refuse the idea of God creating the Earth and the Universe. Instead, we choose to believe the contradictory belief of Evolution. Emerson goes on to say, "We are now so far from the road to the truth, that religious teachers dispute and hate each other, and speculative men are esteemed unsound and frivolous," (Emerson 65). Scientists are constantly trying to prove their theories of nature and how it all started, but have never come to a true conclusion. Science, in a whole, with all of its outcomes, and conclusions, all round up to the fact that God did create the earth; we just choose to not accept it. "Whenever a true theory appears, it will be its own evidence…Its test is, that it will explain all phenomena," (Emerson 65). Once we do choose to accept what the Bible teaches, all of the unanswered questions of the universe will be explained.

In Conclusion, Emerson taught a very self and man centered message which contradicts most Christian belief based on the Bible. Though some of Emerson's ideas give some insight on issues that we face in the world today (the argument over creation, for example), but the fulfillment of all human potential can not be accomplished through an acute awareness of the beauty and truth of the surrounding natural world. But it can be accomplished through God, who molds us and creates us into who he wants us to be. In his day, Emerson attacked the formal religion and argued for self-reliance, and yet, Nature supports logical reasoning in the minds of the unbelievers of today. Transcendentalism denies the thought that there is a supreme ruler meant to rule over us, who created and knows all truth, and we choose to live by these standards instead of God's word. Transcendentalism may explain the world around us today, but does not, in any aspect, reveal the truth. Instead it attempts to justify our immoral lifestyle, which is the exact opposite of what the Bible teaches.

In Jurassic Park III the opening is effective because the tension built is enough to keep me watching. The music gives emphasis of various atmospheres and moods.

In the title scene an Amblin entertainment logo is distorted by a ripple. The sound effects give the impression of the footstep of a dinosaur. The Jurassic Park Logo emerges and by super imposed graphics three claw marks appear. There is then a transition between the title and the first scene, accompanied by a sound affect which gives the impression of a dinosaur rushing past you.

The first thing you see is the lush green island, blue sea and sky. A title fades up "ISLA SORNA 07 miles west of Costa Rica". Then a large red title flashes up onto the screen "RESTRICTED". The colour gives an impression of danger. In the centre frame there is a rock which is a tooth like shape, reminiscent of a dinosaur. There is an over head view of the speed boat, the wake from which again has a sharp, tooth like appearance.

Cheap Custom Essays on Is The opening scene of Jurassic park III effective

The colour contrast gives off impressions. The deep blue of the sea and sky against the actors red and orange clothing, which gives the idea that the characters may be in danger. The island is green against the blue sea and sky, and looks lush and full of life.

The characters during the first scene are easily understood just by the simple fact of them being in the restricted area.

Enrique is a Costa Rican who is paid money by tourists to parasail from his boat off the Costa Rican Coast. Obviously in this situation he has been offered more money to sail by the coast of a dangerous island and Enrique is aware of the dangers

"…you do not want to get eaten!" He says at one point to Eric and Ben. This shows Enrique is willing to take risks for money and put his own and other peoples lives in danger. He is willing to give them a light hearted warning as he wouldn't want put his customers off parasailing over the island.

You can relate Enrique to Dr Alan Grant who appears after the first scene, as they both get offered money to be put in dangerous situations and accept.

Ben is a man who is also willing to risk the life of himself and the child in his care by asking to be flown over the island.

"Try and get as close as you can, I'll pay extra for a good time!" he says to Enrique. Ben must be an ambitious man to be able to pursue a parasailing trip such as this one.

Eric is obviously not aware of the sort of danger he is being put in and is willing to parasail with Ben but when it all starts to go wrong he panics. Later on in the film we realise Eric is very experience with fending for himself and knows more about how to survive than the audience first thinks.

To set the action during the scene many camera shots are used. At the start of the scene the camera looks towards the sky to see a plane flying at a very high altitude this is due to restrictions. A high angle view is then used to suggest the view that a plane would have of the speed boat. Enrique is using his binoculars; he is obviously checking that they haven't been seen. As Ben and Eric Parasail Enrique and his partner realise the rocks ahead they speak in Spanish this builds tension. A cloud suddenly blocks the view that Eric and Ben have of the boat and anything below them. At this point the music changes and the pace quickens.

As the camera takes the view of the boat the music is dramatic and danger is obvious, then above the cloud with Eric and Ben the music is calm and has a light atmosphere, they are unaware of the dangers unfolding below them. Slopping noises and a choppy sea suggest munching and the pace is now becoming faster as the parachute rope starts to tug, Eric and Ben become anxious. With a sudden swoop the cloud clears leaving an empty boat with blood over the sides. Then the rocks are spotted ahead and they both panic, the cross cutting camera from the nearing rocks to Eric and Ben, and the music, builds a lot of tension and speed. The rope is cut and almost immediately the music calms as they glide towards the island leaving a mystery as to what happens next.

The conclusion therefore is that the opening scene for me is enticing enough to watch, with the mystery of the ripples at the start to the end of the scene when Eric and Ben drift toward the island. It also gives the audience enough information on the background of the island and the setting around it. The background of the three characters is also easily seen by there actions, words and behaviour. The first scene is a vital look into the island and the characters which later on in the film is reflected on.

The opening scene gives me enough action with out being too over powering and at the same time makes me want to continue watching, therefore it is effective!

Conflict Management

Abstract

Within my organization there are difficulties with conflict management. When dealing with conflict management internally one must see how the organization works, and how the polices are, as to what you can and cannot do. The management styles vary significantly and this causes the stress level to soar. Each have their own way, and it causes the others to suffer by not knowing what is going on. This paper will contain the differences between management.

Conflict Management

Webster's dictionary describes conflict as " a competitive or opposing action of incompatibles antagonistic state or action (as of divergent ideas, interests, or persons) b mental struggle resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, drives, wishes, or external or internal demands."(Merriam-Webster). Beyond these definitions there are two kinds of conflict that are involved in a work environment setting. (Organizational Behavior 7th Ed). They are "Substantive conflict and Emotional conflict". Substantive conflict is what most managers' experience. At my company there are four supervisors and one director. The supervisors get together to try to make things better for the company, and change certain goals and responsibilities to make the company run more efficiently. When they have a meeting with the director, it is like talking to a brick wall. She never wants to try anything new or change; it is her way or the high way. Substantive conflict is high in this case. Each supervisor tries to work through conflicts amongst themselves, and in most cases it is resolved and never goes any higher. For the most part, if the director wants something done, it is usually something that is not ever feasible in the time line that is given. This causes major conflict amongst her and the supervisor she has asked to do the tasks.

Conflict Management 4

The director is never open, or communicates properly to avoid miscommunications. Her style is one most wouldn't agree with. It contradicts everything one is ever taught about conflict management. The fundamentals are easy I like to always use the do unto others philosophy. If you cannot negotiate, and be open to new ideas you will run into major conflicts amongst the managers, and employees of the company.

My techniques are I would be open in what I wanted out of everyone, and if there was a question, or an idea being open is the best approach. You never tell a manger or employee that you don't want to hear what they have to say. By trying to listen, compromise, and be willing to adjust to change is what I like to do. However, this is not the case at my organization. For example, I was told that I was to enthusiastic about my job and had to mellow out a little on motivation, that I was to happy all the time and that was not excepted at this company. This is a great example of substantive conflict, I guess her views of where she wanted the company appearance should be was a 180 degrees different than mine.

Conflict Management 5

Emotional conflict is the next conflict. Again this is seen on a day-to-day basis in many originations. About every hour you hear an angered voice from the intercom, and hope that it is not your name being called to the directors office. Everyone cringes when you here the directors voice. You can never be right to her. Most days you have to defend your employees, and hear how you're not doing your job right. When she calls certain employees in to her office, you can hear emotions raging. Sometimes you hear yelling, and screaming along with some not, so jester appropriate sayings.

Being aware, of how you can handle conflict, is the key to finding a happy medium to better managing conflict with employees and others. After taking the assessment twenty tests on conflict management gave me an insight to how I would deal with this subject. My result is as follows.

Conflict Management 6

Assessment 0 Results

Competing 10

Collaborating

Avoiding 8

Accommodating 6

The numbers indicate to me that I am a very competitive person, and tend to agree with most. On the other hand I need to work on avoiding and accommodating. As you can see it appears that I dont accommodate very much, this is do to the fact no room for error polices I have. Safety is the first step to keeping employees productive.

In conclusion, I find that my personal management preference is very different than my directors. Therefore, I am going to not deviate from my standards, but work through what I can at my current job to maintain structure. Dealing with conflict can be dealt with, however, finding the right happy medium is the key. Conflict is a two way street and has to be dealt with tact and without emotional connections.

My Goals and Dreams

This decision to return back to school, has been somewhat of a dream of mine. A dream that I kept tossing around but never did anything about, until the day I walked into the Walnut Creek office of the University of Phoenix. As I listened to my Counselor explain in details about the University, which entailed a lot of information. I now know that I need to make a decision that will finally end my search to fulfill dreams.

Cheap University Papers on My Goals and Dreams

As I toss the idea around in my mine, I begin to feel a bit anxious then a rush of fear started to over take me with visions of my not so pleasant days back in school. The days when no one understood what I was going through and I had to figure things out myself. Was I going to allow my High School to break me down or figure some way to make it to graduation, without knowing what my life has in stored for me?

Well I made it to graduation how I don't quite know but I graduated. My life begins now. What should a person do once they have graduated High School and feel they haven't learned anything to prepare them for life outside of school? They do what they know and what I knew was how to be a good wife. My mother showed my sisters and me the basic fundamentals of being a wife. So I decided to get married when my then boyfriend Arnold proposed to me a year after I graduated. We were married and had a beautiful baby boy, my life seemed good but I began to feel a bit inadequate when I converse with people. I then started to want more for myself then just being a wife and mother. Don't get me wrong I was a great wife and mother but I needed more. So I applied into some certified nurses aide program at Hilo Hospital. After receiving a certificate from the program I was hired on at the hospital as a nurse aide. Meanwhile, my marriage was going in the direction of Arnold and me filing for divorce.

Now I have a chance to take control of my life again, and to fulfill my dreams of educating my mind to better my chances in achieving a job so I will be able to support myself and my child.

Living on the Big Island of Hawaii doesn't give you many opportunities so I decided to relocate to California which I did. My decision was not an easy one because I decided not to take my son away from his father and disrupt his life so I can fulfill mine. I realized no matter what I decided my sons life would be disrupted, but I just wanted it to be the best decision for him.

As I begin to experience California and what it has to offer me I fall into another relationship and the next thing I know I'm doing what I know best being a wife and a mother too now a beautiful baby girl. As time passes, I enroll into Chabot Community College to begin my prerequisite for the registered nurse program. I also work full time on a grave yard shift at Humana Hospital. As for my marriage I began to resent TJ, my husband because he insisted I quit school which I did. As for my marriage, it also ended in divorce.

Here it is a chance to make my dreams become a reality, am I going to jump at the chance to finally fulfill what I have been longing for or let this become another "I should have." I quickly placed all of my fears into a box in my mind and tied a knot to it. I will follow my own preaching words that I continue to bark at my own children "It is never too late to learn" and with that being said I proceeded with registering into the University of Phoenix to continue my education.

As several days go by, the knot on the box that I have stored in my mind, began to unravel allowing my anxieties as well as my fears to over take me. A vision of how difficult it was back in High School, as I recalled, how I use to freeze during exams, and when I would forget the subject matter of the lectures as well as the lectures itself. It would make it difficult to complete my homework, resulting in a poor grade and being disciplined not only in school but at home.

As I embark on this path, I ask myself. What will I gain? Will I learn better this time around? Will I be able to get the education required to better my career? So why do I want to put myself through this? That is the question I have asked myself over and over again throughout my adult life. The only answer that releases all my fears and anxieties are. This is my dream and I have the opportunity to fulfill it. Face these new challenges with a positive attitude and confidence in myself to Succeed.

I have faced a challenge though it has taken several drafts I have been able to search deeply inside myself and convert my feelings into words to be able to express how I feel in regards to returning to school. It begins to get easier as I continue to realize the possibilities that are out there for me to achieve the goals I set for myself.

As a student attending the University of Phoenix, my personal goal I would like to achieve is to complete all assignments due to receive a passing grade. Another goal is to attend every workshop with enthusiasm and the drive to learn.

Knowing it is up to me, I am in control of the goals I set the only persons' approval I need is mine.

Please note that this sample paper on My Goals and Dreams is for your review only. Growing up as an only child

There are so many different cultures in our world. The culture that I would like

to share is being raised an only child. I look around and realize that this culture is

Cheap Custom Essays on Growing up as an only child

relatively small as the majority of families have at least two or more children in them. I

rarely come across friends that I meet that are an only child. To be an only child isn't

bad but can sometimes be lonely. Growing up I always wished that someday I would

have a brother or a sister.

I could always remember asking my parents for a baby brother or sister

and wondered why they never had another one. I sometimes thought they didn't

want another child because I was so difficult to raise. Since I was never going to

have a sibling; I would go through life as being an only child. As an only child I would

get asked a lot of questions, such as do you get everything you want, do you like being

the only child and do you wish you had a brother or a sister? There was also tension

between my mom and I. Since I didn't have a sibling to fight with my mom and I would

get into a lot of arguments. Being the only child came with a lot of responsibilities that

only I could endure by myself. I was left to take care of my mom when my dad passed

away.

I grew up in Westlake Village in a neighborhood surrounded with big families. I

felt somewhat out of place since all my friends and neighbors had at least two children in

them. After years of asking for a brother or a sister, I finally realized my

parents were never going to grant me my wish. They told me that they couldn't afford to

have another child. I soon realized that I would always be an only child. Though

growing up as an only child wasn't bad but was lonely at times. It seemed that having a

sibling you would always have a playmate to play with all hours of the day. That is what

I feel that I missed out on the most. Everyday I would dread the idea that I would have to

stop playing and come in for the night. . Though for my friends it was

no big deal as they had there siblings to play with until they went to bed.

When I would have my friends come over to play they would always tell me

how lucky I was to be the only child. I would always tell them its okay but really I

wished too have had a brother or sister like them. They would look at me funny and say

"Why"? I would then have to explain to them that it gets boring being along all the time.

They even asked me to trade places with them to see if I would feel the same way, though

I never did. I think my friends were just jealous that I had certain things and that I didn't

have to share my belongings with anyone. I didn't have to compete with siblings for extra

attention like they did either or get hammy downs from an older brother or sister. Being

an only child had its advantages but nothing could compare to having a brother or sister.

To have a sibling to grow up with and share memories with would have been great.

Since I had no one to fight with my mom and I would get into a lot of arguments.

Most of the arguments would be about my room or about something petty. Some of our

fights had to be refereed by my dad since my mom and I would not let up. My

mom wished at times like those that they did have another child because my mom would

get tired of fighting with me. I believe if I did have a sibling my mom and I would have

had a better relationship. Even today my mom and I don't really get along.

Being the only child came with a few responsibilities that only I could endure.

Taking care of my parents was the biggest responsibility of them all. Since I was there

only child they relied on me for a lot of things. In November of 1, my mother

called me and told me my dad had cancer, that call would change my life forever. At that

time my parents lived in Las Vegas so I made trips back and forth from California to visit

my dad. There would be times that I would be there for weeks and how those weeks

took a definite toll on me to watch my dad who was once a body builder

wither away to just skin and bones. He lost his battle with cancer on April , 000.

All my mother could do after his death was to feel sorry for herself and how she

could never get a break in life. I wish at times like this we had a big family to get

support from. Between my father dying and my mother stressing me out I had a seizure

that was brought on from stress. The support from my mother was not very helpful, since

she was the cause of it. I felt like I had lost both of my parents. I believe if I had siblings

to grieve with and to share the responsibilities of taking care of my mom it would have

made a big difference.

Growing up as an only child I feel that I missed out on a lot. Not having any

brothers or sisters have left me feeling more alone since my dad died. Even today

I remember how happy I was as an only child but also wonder how different my life

would have been if I had brothers and sisters to grow up with.

One of the leading furniture manufacturer/exporter in the country today is Union Square Enterprises. For 17 years, it has been producing fine quality furniture for markets here and abroad. With the big success of this furniture company, it came to me as a surprise when I realized that Union Square is owned and managed by one person, Mr. Jose Leo Caparas. Ever since was established, the owner decided to keep the company as sole proprietorship because he believed that having a partner/partners will only bring problems especially on the occasions when there are conflict in decision-making. Also, he opted to have less but efficient staff because he believed that having more staff in the office will further delay the work.

The main office of Union Square, unlike regular offices, is very organized and devoid of people walking back and forth. At first glance, one may think that there are many employees who are absent, but the truth is, six people are enough to do the administrative work in the office. I asked about the organizational structure of the company, Listed below are the hierarchy of the organization and their corresponding responsibilities.

General Manager

The general manager is the owner himself. He personally sees the over-all operation of the business and makes the final decision on all matters. He regularly checks the job done by all departments to make sure that all are done according to his instructions. Being a general manager does not mean having just office work. The general manager also regularly goes to the main plant to check the quality of the furniture produced by their company. The general manager sometimes also serves as the furniture designer.

Sales Department

This department is in-charge of all matters related to the sale of the products of Union Square. They are the one who develop marketing strategies to increase not only the profit but also the awareness of the consumers of the products of Union Square. Of course, these marketing strategies are employed with the approval of the general manager. Most of the staff in this department are designers. This is to aid the costumers in case that they need help in deciding the right furniture for them. All matters which concern the costumer and their needs (i.e. delivery) are also handled by this department. The staff in this department does not stay in the office but rather stays longer in the showrooms.

Finance Department

This department is responsible for handling the incoming and outgoing money

of the company. This department is also the one who budgets the expenses of the company and thinks of other ways of accumulating new profit. Again, they do this job in close coordination with the general manager. With the on going economic crisis of our country, this department has the most headache compared to other departments

Accounting Department

Obviously, this department is checks the flow of money in the business. This department makes sure that all expenses are accounted for and all profit goes directly to the company.

Legal Department

This department takes care of all legal agreements entered by the company. It makes sure that all contracts signed by the general manager are in line with the law and does not entail any form of fraud.

Production Department

In terms of number of employees, the production department is the biggest of all the departments with a total of 0 employees, distributed on the six major divisions of the department. This department cannot be found in the main office. They are mainly based on the furniture factory located in Pampanga. The production is the heart of the operation of the company; this is why great attention to all the details are given to make sure that all products have the highest quality. A production head is appointed to take care of the production of furniture. He has to give attention from the procurement of materials to the packaging of finished furniture. He is also the one responsible for monitoring the rate of production so that orders will be done on time so as not to delay the shipment of exported products. Aside from these responsibilities, He also has to monitor the quality of products produced by the 0 sub-contractors of Union Square in various regions in the country. Production is also responsible for upgrading the designs of furniture and furnishings. A group of designers are assigned to create new designs for the execution of a separate group of craftsmen. After which the new design is presented for the approval of the general manager. To help the production head, an assistant production head is appointed to keep an eye on the operations.

The Production is divided into six major parts. They are the Rattan Framing Division, Metal Framing Division, Weaving Division, Pre-Finishing Division, Finishing Division, and Final Quality Control. These groups are divided according to the work to be done so that after framing, the furniture is passed for weaving, pre-finishing, finishing, quality control, packaging and delivery. Through this system, work is much faster because the employees will able to master whatever they are doing because of repetition of work. Also, to ensure the quality of the product, the furniture passes thru a quality control in every division.

Please note that this sample paper on Union Square is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Creating an imaginary friend.

Until the last sentence of Ann Petrey's 'Doby's Gone,' I am not sure what the real reason is for Sue to create Doby. In the beginning of the story, the author tells us 'because Sue had no one else to play with' (46), but having no one to play with just does not seem enough for me. A couple of questions come into my mind; does she have a good relationship with her parents? Is having an imaginary playmate normal for children of Sue's age, or are we meant to think that Sue might be seriously disturbed mentally?

On the first day of school Sue does not seem to be happy about her mom going there with Doby and her. However, on the way to school Sue seemes to have a nice conversation with her mom. Later, 'she decided that it was good that her mother came. It was better that way. The street would have looked awfully long and awfully big if she and Doby had been by themselves' (47). Still the author points out how good the relationship there is between Doby and Sue, 'she held on to Doby's hand a little more tightly' (47). Sue is searching for support and protection from Doby as well as just being good friends.

Miss Whittier is a teacher of the first grade, and also she is Sue's teacher as well. She noticed that Sue takes some extra crayons for someone, 'but she did not say anything, she just smiled' (48). By Miss Whittier's reaction, I assume that she knows that Sue has someone imaginary which is normal for kids. She knew Sue would over come her loneliness sometime later by spending more time with the other kids in school. Teachers see through a lot of children the same age Sue was. When kids come to school for the first time they do not know what to expect. The teachers, on the other hand, know what to expect; there are some children who are different from others, not being mature enough and having imaginary friends. Every year the first grade's teachers are supposed to teach the kids to start to observe the world with different eyes and to grow out their imaginary friends. Miss Whittier sees that Sue is a child who has not been around other kids of her age, though Sue is very sociable girl, 'Sue did not go out for recess. She stayed in and helped Miss Whittier drew on the blackboard with colored chalk-yellow and green and red and purple and brown. Miss Whittier drew the flowers and Sue colored them' (48). The girl who is eager to help, and do different stuff which is the first proof of her not being seriously disturbed mentally. She was a normal kid.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Ann Petrey's 'Doby's Gon,'

All day long Sue played just with Doby, she does not make any friends, she does not know how. The only person Sue has played with since she was two years old was Doby and he is always there for her. She runs away home from the kids who did not accept her being black, 'my mother says you are a little nigger girl, the boy with red hair said. And then they began to shout 'Her legs are black. Her legs are black.' (4); but also they discriminate against her because she does not know how to start accepting them, and they do not know how to accept Sue either. I do not think Sue will get some real friends if she does not let Doby go. To be accepted by others, people have to accept them first. 'The only way to have a friend is to be one' (Emerson). Going to school is the first time when Sue sees real kids and it is obvious that she would not know how to get closer to them. There is no way Doby can help her with getting new friends, and there is no way to get real friend unless someone starts talking to Sue first.

On the second day of school, several kids are waiting for Sue outside to pick on her. That time is the time when she is left with the kids on her own, without Doby, and it is the first time when she realizes that Doby is not real. Still she could not realize what really was happening to her and where Doby goes, 'she did not feel victorious, she could not feel anything except an aching sense of loss. She stood there panting, wondering about Doby. And then, 'Doby,' she said softly. Then louder, 'Doby! Doby! Where are you?' (440). Sue has not realized that by losing her only friend Doby, she is growing out of being a little girl who would enjoy just playing with an imaginary friend; into a girl who needed to have some real friends. Friends who will be next to her when she needs them, who will be able to try to protect her from any danger on the way. That day she got new friends, 'come on, let's walk home together'- Daisy Bell said matter-of-factly. 'Alright,' Sue said' (440). Having new friends will help Sue to see the world around her better, especially when they are real.

Since Sue is two years old she does not have anyone to play with, she is a very lonely girl. Her parents let her have an imaginary friend, Doby, because they do not have enough time to spend with their daughter, 'The Johnson family reluctantly accepted Doby as a member of the family' (46). Her parents know he is going to leave one day or another. Having an imaginary friend is not abnormal when kids are little. Doby stays with Sue for a long time, until Sue starts going to school.

There are over 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. 4 of these chemicals are carcinogenic (cancer causing). Tar is present in tobacco and is very dangerous; it can stain teeth, fingernails and lung tissue and contains benzo pyrene which triggers tumour development. Another chemical that is present is carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is fatal in large doses and binds to haemoglobin which decreases the level of oxygen attached to haemoglobin and therefore the heart has to work harder to get oxygen to other parts of the body. Nitrogen oxide is in tobacco smoke and damages the lungs. It also causes emphysema. Hydrogen cyanide stops the cilia working properly and therefore the poisonous chemicals in tobacco stay in the lungs. Ammonia is another chemical found in tobacco and also damages the lungs. Tobacco also contains metals and radioactive compounds that are carcinogenic.

Smoking tobacco causes irritation of the trachea and larynx. It causes reduced lung function as the bronchi and bronchioles become swollen and narrower and excess mucus in the passages. Smoking also prevent the lungs to cough out and clear poisonous substances which results in lung damage and irritation. Tobacco smoke can also cause raised blood pressure and heart rate. It also causes tightening of the blood vessels in the skin which causes a drop in skin temperature. Smoking prevents blood from carrying oxygen and produces a stickier blood more prone to clotting. In addition it damages the lining of the arteries and there is an increased risk of stroke and heart attack due to blockages of the blood supply.

The physical effects of smoking include dizziness, nausea, watery eyes and appetite, taste and smell are weakened. The smoker may also experience shortness of breather, persistent coughs, reduced fitness, yellow stains on fingers and teeth. They may also experience more colds and flu then non-smokers and find it harder to recover from illnesses. Smoking can also cause impotence in men and women can become less fertile. People who smoke tend to have facial wrinkles appearing much earlier and in general look older than non-smokers.

People with asthma have extra sensitive or hyper responsive airways. The airways react by narrowing or obstructing when they become irritated. This makes it difficult for the air to move in and out. Smoking doesn't cause asthma but smoke irritates the airways and causes them to narrow and increase the risk of having an attack.

Help with essay on Respiration and Circulation Research (tobacco)Emphysema is a lung disease that reduces the ability of the lungs to expel air. Damage occurs to the bronchioles and since the lungs loose their elasticity they become less able to contract which

prevents the alveoli deflating and therefore the next breathe is taken with extra air in the lungs and the extra air takes up space that the fresh air could take up and deprives the body of the oxygen required. Cigarette smoking is the main cause of emphysema as tobacco causes the lungs to produce defensive cells but these cells destroy proteins which enable the lungs to expand and contract.

Lung cancer is abnormal cells in normal lung tissue. Tobacco contains carcinogenic chemicals which destroy normal tissue in many organs including the lungs resulting in cancer. Not only does tobacco cause lung cancer but can also cause mouth, throat, bladder, colon, rectum, pancreas and cervix cancer.

The government of Australia tries to discourage the use of tobacco and have established a national tobacco campaign. Quit is the name of the campaign and they use television commercials, radio advertising posters etc. to put off tobacco smokers from smoking it. (see picture below). The West Australian government has also established several other programs to discourage smokers and made laws to prevent people smoking in public areas such as restaurants, shopping centers, and gaming venues. They have also implemented mandatory health warning on cigarette packets and have put a tax on cigarettes which makes them more expensive. In third world countries the government hasn't implemented any of these things and that's why tobacco companies direct their advertising there.

Tobacco companies in Australia aren't allowed to advertise directly. However they advertise indirectly by making movies and television programs with people smoking.

In Australia approximately 0% of men and 7% of women are regular smokers. Over the past twenty years, Australians attitude towards smoking has changed, quite dramatically. In that time, smoking has moved from a socially acceptable practice, to being quite strongly objected to by most people.

The medical profession is generally against smoking. They council and advise smokers and discourage smokers by displaying posters around their practices. The Australian Medical Association also advertise to discourage smokers.

A main cause of smoking in teenagers is caused by peer pressure. Teenagers that start smoking are more unlikely to quit than older people that smoke.

Hawaii

Essay

My essay is about the 50th state of the USA, about Hawaii. When people hear about Hawaii, they imagine it as a very exotic place. But its quite difficult to find someone who have visited these islands. Journey to Hawaii is long and boring. You have to fly to New York with over-landing in Helsinki, then fly to LA, where you have to stay over night. Next day is one more flight ahead, from LA to Honolulu, capital of Hawaii. After five hours of flying above ocean, captain of airplane says that youll be landing in few minutes. During landing, you can see Pearl Harbor on the left side. After landing you realize that you are in paradise. Airport doesnt have any windows, because of hot weather. After getting off the airplane, youll get flower necklace, typical for Hawaii.

Hawaii is completely different not only from Europe, but also from US main land. The 1,500 mile-long Hawaiian chain consists of 1 islands, reefs, and shoals. The eight largest, with which most people are familiar, are at the southeastern end. Island of Oahu is second smallest of the four major islands in geographical size. Hawaii has over one million inhabitants. Surprisingly, tree fourths of the states population lives on Oahu. Honolulu, Capital of Hawaii, is also located on this island. Most people live in Honolulu and Pearl City with famous Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is one of the greatest attraction on Oahu. You can visit museum of Pearl Harbor and Arizona Memorial. Its possible to see ships, which were destroyed in Battle of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 141..

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Hawaii

Everybody, who goes to Hawaii, wants to visit Waikiki, one of the most famous beaches in the world. When I saw it, I couldnt understand why its so popular. Its quite small beach with plenty of people on it. Only advantage of Waikiki beach is hot water without waves. Temperature of water in summer is approximately 0 °C. Its also great place for surfers, because, there are about half an meter high waves 100 meter far away from shore.

Behind Waikiki beach you find Kalakaua avenue, one kilometer long street with many malls, shops, banks and fast foods. Its not only tourist center of Hawaii, but also center of night life with many bars, restaurants, pubs and discos. At 10 p.m., this street is as busy as Venceslav square at p.m. Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood can be found there.

Ten to fifteen minutes of walking from Waikiki is Ala Moana Center, the largest open-air shopping center in the world with 180 stores and over 7.800 parking places. Downtown of Honolulu is about 1 mile away from Ala Moana. Its part of Honolulu with skyscrapers and china town.

But Hawaii is not only Waikiki and Honolulu. Its also part of nature. If you want to get familiar with it, you have to leave Honolulu. On the East of Oahu, there is Hanauma bay. Hanauma bay is an underwater park. You swim between hundreds of fishes. Sometimes you have even problems to take picture of your friend under water (with waterproof camera) , because between you and your friend are so many fishes that your friend couldnt be seen on the picture. On the other hand, you can visit real rain forest on the same island. It rains there every 15 minutes, so its little uncomfortable hiking, but the wild nature is very exciting.

Lets move to the Big Island, sometimes also called Hawaii. Its the biggest island with the largest active volcano in the world. One half of this island looks like Moon landscape, second half of this island is mostly covered by rain forests with many waterfalls. Some of them are more than 50 meter high. More interesting is, of course, part with volcanoes. You can see there something you wont see anywhere else in the world - roads covered by real lava. Yes, its true. You are driving and suddenly there is end of the road. But not common end as you know it from other countries. There is two meter high layer of lava over the road.

Speaking of volcanoes, I know interesting story about it. Weve visited small museum on the side of the greatest crater ( km in diameter). There were some seismographs placed in this museums. Above them there was notation like this „How do we recognize that volcano eruption is coming? There are many very light earthquakes, which people cannot feel, before volcano eruption is coming". I looked at the seismograph and realized that there were many small earthquakes this year. After minute of watching seismograph I realized that its moving quite fast. Those small earthquakes had to be couple of hours old, not couple of months as I supposed. I told it to my friends and I added that eruption is may be coming. They told me that Im totally dumb. This happened on Saturday. On Sunday, we took airplane back to Honolulu. When I bought newspaper next day, I saw an article with title like this „The biggest volcano eruption in past 10 years came yesterday". I was really sad, because I didnt see the eruption.

I could write about tens of other topics related to Hawaii. I have enough memories to write light book. I think I mentioned the most important facts about Hawaii that people wished to know. I would tell you just one more information about Hawaii. If you think that Hawaiians have never seen snow, your wrong. The tallest peak, Mauna Kea, which is Located on the Big Island, is famous because its only place in Hawaii, where can be found snow.

Identifying the conflict and the role it plays brings out the plot through the setting of a story. In A Rose for Emily the author uses that method, but he did it a little differently. William Faulkner did not start the story A Rose for Emily like an average story starts off. William Faulkner took a different approach in the structure of A Rose for Emily by using the plot to foreshadow the rest of story. In A Rose for Emily the setting can be identified by the social and man-made aspects, the conflict, and the plot.

To begin, the primary setting happened socially through the people in the town. The town is a symbol by foreshadowing the rest of Emilys life. In the introduction, the town talked about Emilys funeral and ended with how she lived her life before she died. Also, the town played a big role socially because it was small and everyone knew everyones business. After Emilys father died her life gradually went downhill. She used to be slender and pretty, but she changed to a fat, unattractive woman. The town pitied Emily because the changes she went through were not expected of her. From then on they saw her as Poor Emily . That was basically how Emily became a subject to their attention.

Next, the man-made setting was the house Emily stayed in. You can say that the house was also like a character too. It showed the changes Emily went through by changing physical. When her father was alive the house was well kept and in good shape on the outside and in the inside. When her father died, the house started to change its looks. The leather started cracking, there was an okward smell, and things started to tarnish, and the house started to detearate. The town people complained especially about the smell coming from the house. The judge ordered to have the house cleaned, but they thought that might insult her by saying she smells bad. So, they broke in her house through the cellar door and sprinkled lime there and in all of the outbuildings.

In addition, the primary conflicts are 1) Man vs. Man, ) Man vs. Self, and ) Man vs. Society. The first conflict was between Emily and Homer. It was established when Homer finished his contracting job and left to go back home. Homer came back to visit Emily and told her he was gay, but she did not care. All she wanted was Homer to not leave her again. Nothing else was said except, "That was the last we saw of Homer Barron" by the town. The second conflict was established between Emily and herself. Emily had to face some moral issues with herself. She knew that murder was not right. "She knew what she did was wrong; that is why her own life was wrecked. She had broken all the laws of her tradition, her background, and of God." She did that all to have endless love. The third conflict was between Emily and the town. It was established after her father died. When Emily's father died, she denied it for three days while his corpse remain in the house. She finally broke down and cried accepting the fact that her father was dead and ever since that she had never been the same and became the talk of the town.

Do my essay on A Vision of Death CHEAP !

In contrast, the plot was revealed at the end of "A Rose for Emily" unlike other stories. The town thought that was the last they would see of Homer Barron. Actually, that was true for a while, but it was not until years later his corpse was discovered in Emily's house next to a long strand of iron-gray hair in her bed. It all happened when Homer came back to visit Emily. She did not want Homer to go back because she loved him so she poisoned him with arsenic so that she could be with him forever. After Emily's funeral the town went to her house to see the inside. Her house was furnished with bridal things in it. In the commentary Faulkner says that all Emily wanted to do was to find a loving husband to be loved and start a family with.

Furthermore, the significance of the title, "A Rose for Emily", is about the hardships about Emily life like she had no reason for living. In the commentary, Faulkner said, "Emily was a poor tragic human being struggling with her own heart, others, and her environment for the simple things in which all human beings want. The way I interpreted "A Rose for Emily" was that Emily had a resentful life because all the things that happened to her was negative. For example, how her father did not want Emily to leave home because he wanted a housekeeper, how the man she loved was gay, and how she had to put up with the noisy people in her town was all a part of her reasonless life. If I was Emily I would be angry to because she never experienced any true happiness before she died. I am thinking that that turned her a little insane because she did not have any friends because Faulkner said, "After her father's death she went out very little, after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her (18). She had no social life at all except with the cook, but he would just cook, clean and leave. Also, the significance of the rose in "A Rose for Emily" was how people cherish something and put in their book for just for the memory. That rose told her story. I also interpreted the rose as something someone put on your grave to offer his or her condolences saying that they understand what happened whether it was for the better or the worse.

Starbucks is the number-one specialty coffee retailer in the United States of America. Starbucks was founded in 171. The first store was opened in Seattle, Washington at Pike Place Market. Starbucks currently has 5,888 stores. They continue to grow and are opening new stores one right after the other. Florida currently has 110 stores with hopes to have over 600 by the year 005. One of the things Starbucks prides in is the awards it has received for ethics and social responsibilities. Starbucks is very big on giving back to the community and conservation.

Part of the Starbucks mission statement is to Contribute positively to our communities and our environment. Partners (employees) take that mission personally, putting in many hours of volunteer time for their local neighborhoods and non-profit groups. From AIDS walks to tutoring kids to serving meals for the homeless, Starbucks partners prove that they care.

Each Starbucks store chooses a charity to receive its leftover pastries and past-date coffee. Many stores donate coffee to charitable events each month. One of these events in neighborhoods is called "Green Sweep". "Green Sweep" is trash pickups in different communities and other efforts that go along with that. Starbucks partners also invite people of the community to join in. Another popular charity is the All Books for Children book drive (ABC).

Starbucks corporate contributions focus on literacy and education, AIDS outreach, environmental awareness, and the arts. Cash and product donations are made to non-profit organizations that partners serve as volunteers or board members.

Starbucks has created "Green Teams". Green Teams continuously review ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink environmental practices in their stores and roasting plants. Individual stores or partners receive the "Green Bean Award", which is an award that recognizes superior performance in these efforts. One example is, instead of throwing away the coffee grounds Starbucks gives them away to customers to use in their garden. The grounds help with the amount of acidity in the ground, making their gardens very healthy.

In 16, the Starbucks Foundation was created by Howard Schultz. The Foundation's mission is to create hope, discovery, and opportunity in the communities where we live and work. It focuses on literacy for children and families. More than one hundred literacy grants were awarded in The Foundation's first year. A very special feature of this program is the participation of Starbucks partners. The partners can sponsor grant applications to help local literacy groups.

Starbucks has joined with Guatemalan non-profit groups in a pilot program to evaluate working conditions in a coffee-producing region of Guatemala. There are four coffee growing regions that Starbucks gets their coffee from. They are Guatemala, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. If the program is successful the other three regions will become part of the program. The long-term goal of this and other programs is to improve the circumstances of the people who cultivate, harvest, and process coffee beans. Starbucks is very committed to these origins. Buying coffee from these origins promotes conservation, organic farming, and economic stability. These are all very important issues that affect the people and the places that produce Starbucks coffee.

Starbucks is the largest direct corporate contributor to CARE, the international development and relief organization. The efforts are focused on literacy in the four coffee-growing regions of Indonesia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Guatemala, with special contributions in response to natural disasters. For example, Hurricane Mitch. Starbucks contributed, in response, to Hurricane Mitch. As of December 00, Starbucks has contributed more than 1.4 million dollars to CARE.

A little more on conservation, Starbucks has partnered with Conservation International (CI) to support and enhance coffee production. This all begins with small farms in Chiapas, Mexico. The special interests are preserving traditional shade coffee farms in areas of high biodiversity and promoting ecologically sound practices in key tropical ecosystems.

In some coffee-origin countries, Starbucks pays a premium above the purchase price of coffee to fund local education and health projects which benefit coffee workers. These donations are jointly managed by Starbucks and by the local coffee partners---growers, millers, and exporters.

Starbucks tries to make a difference to the people and places that produce coffee, the countries and the families. The way they do business is very ethical. While giving to communities "here" and "there", they encourage conservation in the areas where their coffee is grown. These and other ideas have increased Starbucks profits by more than 50%.
