Act 1

Meriwether Lewis says to Clark As you know I used to be neighbors with our newly elected President Thomas Jefferson. Since becoming President, he has asked me to be his secretary. One of the things that he needs to know is whether or not there is a direct water route to the Pacific Ocean. He is asked me to set up an expedition to find if a water route exists.

I would like you to command the expedition together with me. I dont know long it will take. It might take years, there might be dangerous Indian tribes that we run into, and we may even get lost but the bottom line it that I think it will be a great adventure.

Clark replies I feel honored to that youve asked me to accompany you on this journey. Im not sure if Im making the right choice but my previous job in the military has ended and I would like to change my life so Im going to accept and I will go with you on this great adventure.

The two shake hands.

Act two

Meriwether Lewis and Sacagawea approached Clark. Lewis says Clark I would like you to meet Sacagawea, she is the wife of Toussaint. She is a Shoshoni Indian. I think it would be good if they accompanied us on this journey. Since she is an Indian she will be able to translate for us. This is her young son John.

Clark says welcome, Sacagawea, I think you will be a great asset to us.

Clark then greets the baby.

Hello little fellow, I think I will call you Pomp since you are such a cute little boy.

Act three

It is night time. Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea are sitting around a campfire.

Clark says this land is so beautiful but I can hardly believe my eyes. And the animals are amazing. I think Ive seen 10,000 buffalo today.

Lewis says yes it is beautiful here but Im not so fond of all the animals. Ive been chased by three different grizzly bears today. They keep running at me even when Im shooting at them.

Clark chuckles and says yes Lewis, they do seem to like you lot.

Sacagawea says I am from this land. It is my home. We believe this land has been blessed.

Clark says why did you leave here?

Sacagawea said, I was kidnapped away from my tribe and sold for money. Luckily I then escaped and went on to meet my husband. I hope to find the rest of my tribe someday.

Act four

Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea are eating hungrily.

Lewis says Clark we nearly starved crossing those mountains. Its obvious to me there is no water route through the Rocky Mountains. We must get to the Pacific Ocean. The only way were going to be able to cross is on horses.

Clark says how you think we will get horses? I dont think we have enough money left to buy any from the Indians.

Sacagawea says as you know, we met members of my old tribe today. They are taking me to meet the new chief of the tribe. Maybe we will be able to get horses from them. Lets go.

Act five

Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark enter the teepee of the Indian chief. The Indian chief says welcome.

Sacagawea says thank you for inviting us and seeing us today.

Sacagawea says, I cant believe it, you're my brother! Its me Sacagawea!

The Chief says Sacagawea, I cant believe its you! Weve missed you so much!

They both hug each other.

The chief says Sacagawea I want to spend some time talking with you and catching up but first tell me why youre here with these two men.

Sacagawea says we must obtain horses in order to cross the mountains. We have some things to trade with you but we do not have enough to pay for the cost of all the horses that we need.

The chief says I will do everything within my power to help you. Trade what you can and I will give you the remaining horses. Spend a few days here refreshing yourselves. Now Sacagawea, let us go and talk together just you and I.

ACT 6

Lewis and Clark are alone together.

Lewis says Clark, it has taken as nearly two and a half years to reach the Pacific Ocean and return. We know now theres no water route across the Rocky Mountains. And while finding that out we have covered and explored some of the most beautiful lands weve ever seen.

Clark says this was more of an adventure than I knew. But every moment has been worthwhile. Thank you for including me on the best adventure of my life.

Lewis says my good friend, thank you for coming with me. I couldnt have done it without you.

The two friends walk off arm in arm together.

POP ART

A NEW ART MOVEMENT

Pop Art is an art movement that appeared in the fifties as a reaction against "Abstract Expressionism"(considered as an accepted style). It referred to some artists' interest in the images of mass media, advertising, comics, and consumer products. Pop Art brought art back to materiality and popular culture as it eliminated the difference between good and bad taste, and fine art and commercial art techniques (Pop Art 07/1/00). Lawrence Alloway first used the term Pop Art (as popular art) in a 158 issue of "Architectural Digest" to describe the paintings that celebrate post-war consumerism, defy the psychology of "Abstract Expressionism", and worship the god of materialism (Pop Art 1/1/00). Pop Art started in the fifties in Britain (it became a piece of the image of "swinging London") and reached its top in the U.S. (New York in particular) in the sixties. Two leading Pop artists are David Hockney and Andy Warhol.

"British Pop Art arose of a new understanding of contemporary life. It was intellectual, interdisciplinary, and programmatic in character". During the early fifties, British artists and intellectuals started to conceive that their culture was more and more fixed by social change, new technology, and mass media, and that this movement was inducing the enhanced "Americanization" of Europe (Steven Henry

Madoff). This cultural alteration was not manifested in the self-contained, expressive, abstract-figurative art of the older generation of British artists Henry Moore or Graham Sutherland for example.

Actually, the Independent Group was assembled in 15 in order to have casual conversations and cultural events at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. The subjects brought to issue at their reunions can be listed as follows the amplification of artistic techniques beyond traditional forms of representation, action painting, helicopter and car-body design, nuclear biology, mass media and municipal culture, folk culture, the cinema, pop music, and the theories of Marshall McLuhan. These topics were very distant from the concerns of the cultural establishment of that time.

The Pop Art movement expanded fast in Britain, among the younger generation and in geographical terms, and it is because of young painters' influence that British Pop Art reacted with much potency to American Pop Art. This period of British Pop Art prospered and made its first public presence at the exhibition "Young Contemporaries" in 160 the first exhibition to provide a general survey of the new art movement (Pop Art in Britain). British Pop Art eliminated the traditional limits of artistic development to walk on the trail of self-analysis within a consciously perceived and reflected present-day existence.

On another hand, when American Art stood up with its newly found self-confidence against European influence in the fifties, American Pop Art was born. Actually Americanism itself catered the initial push the idea of progress, the media

industry and the star-cult were experiencing a boom in Hollywood and, more especially, in New York, the cultural center of the U.S.A..

American Pop Art developed through different phases. The first was the pre-pop phase, in which painters abandoned "Abstract Expressionism". The second was the heyday of Pop Art, in which a large number of important artists, whose work was partly based on commercial art, design and poster painting, emerged. With the sponsorship of certain committed and experimental New York galleries, this phase of Pop Art quickly achieved success and recognition as a new art movement. During the third phase (the middle of the sixties), American Pop Art was widely known it expanded from New York to the West Coast and Canada, and later to Europe and Britain which had its own Pop Art for some time. The last phase featured a harsh, radical realism, largely of American origin, whose subject was urban social relations.

The earliest advocates of American Pop Art outside New York were from California. Los Angeles was the center of West Coast Pop, a city whose sub-culture not only had an enduring influence on this variant of Pop Art, but which was later to conquer the world in the form of the hippie culture and lifestyle (Pop Art in America).

One of the leading Pop artists is David Hockney (17- ). British painter, draughtsman, printmaker, photographer, and designer. As a student, Hockney lead an astonishing prize-winning path at the Royal College of Art, then realized international success during his mid twenties. Since then, he stabilized himself as by far the most famous British artist of his generation. His exceptional achievement has not been built only on the flair, wit, and versatility of his work, but on his colorful personality too,

which has lead him to become a known figure even to people who are not really attached to art (Hockney, David).

Although he never accepted the label of leading pop artist, Hockney gained this reputation because of his early paintings that are jockey in mood. During the late sixties he moved to a weightier, more traditionally representational manner in which he painted some splendid portraits (Hockney spent a lot of time in the U.S.A. and the Californian swimming pool has been one of his favorite subjects). In the seventies he achieved his peak as a stage designer and moved during the eighties to photography. Hockney is a perceptive commentator on art he published a book on his own work in 176, "David Hockney by David Hockney" (David Hockney).

Another leading pop artist is Andy Warhol (10-187). Born in Pittsburgh, Warhol got his high school diploma in 145 (he studied pictorial design and art history, sociology and psychology). In 14, he met Philip Pearlstein and moved to New York with him, where he worked for "Vogue" and "Harper's Bazaar". In 15, he had his first one-man exhibition at the Hugo Gallery, New York, and he moved after that into a house in Lexington Avenue with his mother (and several cats!). In 156, Warhol had an individual exhibition of his drawings for "Boy Book" at the Bodley Gallery, and he traveled in Europe and Asia. In 16, he produced his silkscreen prints on canvas of dollar notes, Campbell's Soup cans, Marilyn Monroe…

Between 16 and 164 Warhol produced over two thousand pictures in his "Factory" as well as he made two movies "Sleep" and "Empire" in 16. He also produced the first record of the rock band the Velvet Underground in 167 and he made several films with them.

In July 168 Valerie Solanis, the only member of S.C.U.M. (the Society for Cutting Up Men), shot down Warhol (he was dangerously wounded). In 175 Warhol

published the first edition of his book "The Philosophy of Andy Warhol"(from A to B and Back Again). In 180 he became manager of the cable television station "Andy Warhol's T.V.". In 181 the exhibition Andy Warhol-Paintings 161-168 was held at the Kestner-Gesselschaft, Hanover, and at the Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich. He made pictures of disasters between 18 and 185, and portraits of Lenin and self-portraits in 186. His will provided for an endowment fund for the patronage of art (Andy Warhol).

Pop Art made art accessible for everyone, and opened new dimensions in art it reflects the twentieth century man's vision of himself, getting more and more into the materiality of things.

The discovery of an all-water route between Europe and Asia would have lowered prices of Eastern Goods because it would have made the cost of travel and shipping that much cheaper. Travel on land was difficult and laborious. There were huge mountain chains and long journeys to traverse in order to trade goods. An all-water route between Europe and Asia would have made shipping and trading goods a much less expensive venture. If the original price of a jewel in Asia was five dollars, the labor in moving it over thousands of miles of treacherous terrain might raise the price to 15 dollars. If an all-water route were to be found, it would make the traveling of those thousands of miles much cheaper.

4. Man's motives for the exploration of outer space are much the same of the early European's motives for exploration. If people have a good and reliable means of exploring their territory and what they can reach, they will do it. The early European's motives for exploration were many finding of a Northwest passage, finding new territory to colonize, gold, and the simple yearning to know what is out there that they have not seen before. Man's reasons for exploring outer space and the planets within our solar system are much the same finding a new planet to colonize, the search for new life, and the desire to see new frontiers. Although the early Europeans were not really in the search for new life, this is probably because the early Europeans were quite self-oriented, figuring that there was no new life to see, they were it.

Today most people think that racial prejudice does not affect them. Most people believe that they are very accepting of other cultures and give everyone a chance. However it is surprising how subtle yet prevalent the effects of racial prejudice are on modern society.

During the 18th and early 1th centuries, racial prejudice was rife against black people. The most well known incidences are against African people who were first brought to America as slaves. Because they were slaves they were treated with much contempt and continually discriminated against, suffering the most inhumane atrocities.

Not only did African people suffer such prejudices but also the Aborigines people when the English came to Australia. They were treated with much the same contempt and also suffered they loss of there home being taken away from them, just because they were not the same nationality as the English people.

Much prejudice was also shown to the Chinese people during the gold rush in Australia also. They were excluded from social activities, were not lowed to be employed and were given minimal privileges within the gold mines. These people were also the victims of racial prejudice.

Write my Essay on The Effects of Racial Prejudice on Modern Society. for me

There were countless more incidences worldwide and there still are of racial prejudice. It is an attitude that has been instilled into human kind and is continually manifested in modern society. And when this attitude rears its ugly head, it has disastrous effects, usually causing many deaths and an ongoing battles to prove which race is superior. When in fact there is no superior race, only people.

The most well known conquest to find the most superior race would have to be Adolf Hitlers efforts during the second world war. Filled with racial prejudice he was determined that the German people were more superior than any other race in Germany and he made it his goal to eradicate all those who were not of German background or did not hold the same beliefs as himself. Yet his efforts were in vain as he would never be able to prove such theory, because all people are equal.

Today racial prejudice is not so blatant as it used to be, due to many people realising that all people are equal and there is no need to exclude those that are not of the same race. Yet there are many ways in which racial prejudice proves to still be common today.

Firstly there is language. The English language gives a wide scope for so called nicknames to be used when naming other nationalities of people. While these particular nicknames can be used in good fun, to most it is actually quite offensive. The English language also gives way to many racially oriented jokes. Not only can they be highly offensive but encourage racial prejudice among even the most open-minded people.

Secondly there is ignorance. People in society prefer to ignore the fact that they are racially prejudice toward other races, sticking to the belief that if it is ignored then it doesn't exist and that they can't be expected to like everyone. Thus most people carry on about their daily business always making conscience choices to avoid facing the issue of racial prejudice.

Today there is much division in society. There are gangs and social clubs which directly exclude certain races. Once a remark is made it can allow for a retaliation on the other races part. This situation can be seen in Perth between certain gangs of different races, who end up fighting and killing one another because of one racist remark.

Most parents today still hold racial attitudes that were instilled into them as children. While modern society is struggling to eradicate racial prejudice, it can be found that racial prejudice is being passed on from parents to their children. Thus the continuation of an ongoing cycle that is hard to break. Children with the negative beliefs of other races pass these onto their peers within the classroom. Creating grounds for bullying and segregation amongst children.

Obviously the effects of racial prejudice on modern society is quite damaging and has a negative effect on society, causing all sorts of problems. Yet just as it is impossible to enforce world peace, it is the same with racial prejudice. It is unstoppable yet every effort should be made to keep it as slight as possible, because all people have the right to be free from racial prejudice.

Slavery

By Sara Malan

During the course of the slave trade, millions of Africans were moved to the New World. Some Africans resisted enslavement by running from slave forts on the West African coast. Others attacked on board slave trading vessels, or threw themselves into the ocean. In the New World there were those who ran away from their owners, ran away among the Indians, revolted, feigned sickness, or participated in work slow downs. Some went out to find freedom and succeeded in gaining liberty through various legal means such as good service to their masters, self-purchase, or military service. Still others seemingly acquiesced and learned to survive in servitude.

The European, American, and African slave traders were fine with trading in humans, and the politicians and businessmen who supported them, did not intend help change any thing. The slaves wanted freedom, and they got it later in history, no matter what those politics did. When Thomas Jefferson wrote the words, All men are created equal, he could not possibly have envisioned how literally his own slaves and others would take his words. African Americans repeatedly questioned how their owners could consider themselves noble in their own fight for independence from England while also believing that it was wrong for slaves to do that.

Write my Essay on slavory for me

During the colonial time of United States history, and for a long time after, connection with Africa was only through the slave trade. The economy of the English colonies came to be taken over by the production of money crops on large plantations. The South had to import most of their goods and needed labor. New England was in a good position to help in meeting these needs, because shipping cost lots. Since a large part of the carrying trade of New England was with the Indian colonies, New England merchants almost inevitably became involved in the slave trade.

In 161 the North American colonies got their first black slaves. During the rest of the 17th century, the increase in slaves was small because of the European servants and because of the slow development on the plantation economy. Most slaves came from the West Indies, where they were shipped for resale; it was found that profits could be increased. Colonial ships loading in the Mediterranean often found that they had space left for human merchandise. When that happened, they would visit the African coast and add a few people to their cargoes of wine and salt. In the 17th century, slaves were usually brought to the West Indies rather than to the continental colonies.

Later the slaves revolted and regained their freedom. Slavery lasted a long time, around 400 years, but now slavery is illegal. People are trying to make up the pain caused by this time, but I think we just need to learn to live better then move on.

From your reading of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, how appropriate would you say the musical reference in the title is?

The musical reference in the title is appropriate to the novel because it helps sum up one of its central paradoxes which is war and life or peace. While 'Captain' conveys the difficult situation Corelli is in the Mandolin can be seen as a symbol of life and optimism in the novel and offers a sense of hope as it can bridge all gaps caused by war.

Music is shown to be a life force throughout the novel by the associations de Bernieres makes with it, particularly set against the dark contrast of war. As the title suggests the character of Corelli and music are inseparable concepts and so the reader is invited to see this character as another force of good. A major part of the novel is concerned with the love affair between Captain Corelli and Pelagia and so we are able to appreciate its importance to their relationship and the close affinity that music has with love in general. Corelli is able to illustrate his love and admiration for Pelagia through music

'It was a march, a march of a proud woman who persecutes war with hard words and kindness.'

Through music Corelli can express one of the aspects of Pelagia that he most loves- her complexity.

Music is associated with children and childlike behaviour. Corelli is an exuberant character who appreciates the power of laughter and enjoys playing with Lemoni. De Bernieres shows the power of music in allowing a person to retain their innocence and appreciation of the simple pleasures of life.

Music is also associated with inspiration. Pelagia has an epiphany when she realises that music is 'an emotional and intellectual odyssey.' For the first time Pelagia is inspired by music, recognises its true value and this is given greater significance as it parallels her realisation of her love for Captain Corelli. Music is shown to be inspiring in its self but on another level can prove a catalyst for revelation and greater knowledge of ones self in general.

Music is also a symbol of strings for heart strings as they are Captain Corelli's salvation in medical sense

'I used some of your mandolin strings to link the bone.'

Corelli's association with music is made complete as the mandolin becomes physically part of him in order to keep him alive. The strings are a force of life, working against death and this is particularly significant in the context of war. Music is symbolic of the human spirit and its ability to survive in the face of adversity.

As well as beginning an inseparable part of the character of Corelli, music is also linked with woman to highlight its force for good and redemption. Pelagia is described as a mandolin

"I brush her strings, softly, and I say to her "how can you be made of wood?" just as I see Pelagia and ask without speaking, "Are you truly made of flesh."'

Pelagia and women in general in the novel are shown as having an enduring strength that overcomes difficulties and hardship. Pelagia survives the war, withstands separation from her lover and the death of her father to ultimately be rewarded with a second youth at the end of the novel. Women are shown as holding the family together with Dresola and Pelagia forming a female trio with Antonia to afford her a secure upbringing.

The musical reference in the title fixes novel in the romantic tradition of love being inspired through music and the rule of the heart over the head. Pelagia can not resist being seduced by Corelli's music, just as ultimately she can not help falling in love with him

'She watched his face and forgot to attend any more to the music; she wanted to share the journey.'

The beauty of the music removes Pelagia from her present situation allowing her to forget her worries, feel pleasure and so her still sub conscious love for Captain Corelli grows. The music enables Pelagia to forget the war and that Corelli is on the opposing side

'The trouble was that he was no longer just an Italian, he was Captain Corelli, who played the mandolin and was very charming.'

Music provides the platform for the two to fall in love as it transports them to another level of reality their own reality together.

Music is shown to be a tool for communication. Corelli feels terrible guilt for his part in the war particularly because he feels so at home at Greece and he ponders the contradictory nature of the World

'What have I got against the British that I have had to come to Greece? Pelagia is right, but who will be the first to say it? So far only Antonia has said it, ringing with 'Pelagia's March', singing beneath my fingers.'

Corelli's music is given real poignancy as we are able to appreciate that it expresses his inner most feelings -what he feels that he can not even voice. . In this sense music is a miracle which cannot be explained rationally. It is given an almost spiritual quality with its power to communicate when words can not be found

Beautiful imagery and language is used both to describe Corelli's music and also the mandolin its self

'the rounded belly of it was composed of tapering strings of close-grained maple, separated skilfully by thin fillets of rosewood.'

The reader is able to appreciate that the mandolin is an extraordinary thing of beauty

and its music to be 'exquisite' as the language invites us to visualise and hear it. Set against graphic, brutal language used to describe the realities of war de Bernieres acts to make the difference between war and the civilised virtues of harmony, calm and beauty all the more shocking.

Music is also used as a narrative device as it parallels action and mood. In a stream of lyrical consciousness we are able to trace Corelli's growing obsession with Pelagia through his passionate rhapsody on music and love

'Pelagia shares these simple, merry chords. She plays with the cat and laughs, and it is sol. She raises an eyebrow when she catches me observing, and pretends to reproach me and reprove me for the guilt of admiration, and it is doh.'

Corelli makes the connection between Pelagia and music when he describes her like a piece of music and so we are able to fully appreciate the depth of his feelings as she becomes his other great passion.

In the novel music is also shown to be an antidote to engines of destruction. When Corelli and the other Italian soldiers are being taken to be executed Corelli suggests that they all begin to sing

"'Why not sing in the face of death? 'Let's sing, boys,' he repeated. 'Carlo sing.'"

For him the need for music in his most desperate hour is overwhelming. Music can be seen as a solace as it sooths souls in turmoil. It has an ability to transport people out of their present situation and find strength within themselves

'It was easier to hum than to dwell on death; it gave the heart something to do.'

The power of music is emphasised as it floods the minds of the soldiers providing them with the strength to face death with dignity and so music can be seen as inspiring acts of heroism.

Music also brings out human and individual side of the 'good Nazi' as an antidote to his uniformity of ideology. When Gunter is first introduced he is clearly a young boy lost to the Nazi regime. He emptily repeats Nazi slogans and is the stereotypical Nazi soldier. However, Corelli is able to expose the 'real' Gunter by making him a member of La Scala and allowing him to join in in some good hearted fun. Gunter is in fact not a typical Nazi shown through his appreciation off music which sets his soul free. However, it is significant that he can not sing, signalling that ultimately he is 'destined to betray with a Judas kiss.'

The novel is post-modern in its undermining of certainties and so the musical reference in the title is highly significant as it features continually as a positive contrast to war. Where war is shown to be destructive, music is shown to be healing. War takes away human life but music can be seen as a life force.

So you've found yourself in a greenside bunker and haven't the slightest clue on how to get out of your little beach. Let's start with the equipment. The basic 56 or 60 degree sand wedge will do. You'll need to locate the bunker rake to clean up after yourself when you've successfully landed the ball on the green. Don't worry about your dress for now, that will come in time when you've learned to play golf.

First, look at how you got yourself into the bunker in the first place and remember never to do that again. Once you realize that there is no way out except to hit the ball the following steps will get you out First, pick the club, a 56 or 60 degree sand wedge. Determine where to hit the ball before approaching your lie. Once you have picked out the target, which hopefully should be somewhat close to the flag, look at the green around it and check for breaks in the green. A break in the green is where the ball will have a tendency to curve to the left or right, depending on the direction of the break. When approaching the ball take the shortest possible route through the sand, leaving you with less clean up of the bunker after the shot.

Once over your ball you can take a few practice swings, but be very careful not to touch the sand because that will cost you one penalty stroke. The last thing you need to do is turn this hazard into an even bigger burden on your game. When you feel ready to hit your ball you need to remember a few basics. When you swing keep your head down and still. Have even weight distribution over the ball, standing directly over the ball, with it in the middle of your feet while in your stance. Take a nice slow and even back swing and the release into a steady fore swing. This swing should be a full swing as with any iron or wood. Be careful, this is not a "chip" shot of any kind. When striking the ball, hit the sand about an inch behind the ball to get the maximum lift and cushioning in the landing.

Now, hopefully you've gotten your ball on the green in the area of your target without spreading sand all over the green and fairway. Once you are done in the bunker you, take the rake and clean up any divots or footprints in the bunker. This maintenance of the bunker is just general golf etiquette. Place the rake off to the side of the bunker so that the party behind you doesn't hit it with their ball.

Congratulations, you're one-step closer to improving your over all golf game. Bunker shots are one of the harder golf shots to master. Improving this shot makes it easier to take strokes off your game and stress off your mind. Of course, the easiest way to keep those bunker strokes completely of your scorecard is to become consistent at hitting the fairways and greens in regulation. I hope you enjoyed have this tutorial on the green side bunker shot.

Software exists on a computer in the form of files. System files (those that comprise the operating system) are a unique category as opposed to those that are considered applications. The operating system dictates how the hardware functions. It tracks what resources are being used and to what degree, receives the input from devices such as the keyboard or mouse, directs output to the monitor or printer, tests that hardware is working, etc. A computer is not functional without an operating system. Operating systems allow applications to work by handling memory resources, directing output, adn storing the users data. Thus an operating system serves as a intermediary between the application and the computer hardware.

There are a variety of operating systems on the market today. The most popular is the various flavors of the Windows operating system developed by Microsoft. But Windows is really built on technology first publicly introduced to the world by Apple computer in their Macintosh operating system, the Mac OS. But the technology used by Apple was gained from work that had originated at Xerox-Parc. Think about it, had Xerox not given away the technology to Apple, they today might be in Microsofts shoes (and wealth).

Linux is an open source operating sytem, of which there are many versions and distributors, including RedHat, SuSe, and Caldera. Linux is rapidly gaining in popularity and is used on many web servers. Linux is based on Unix, which is an older mainframe-based operating system.

DOS, or the Disk Operating System, is a text-based, command-line operating system used by the original IBM personal computers and clones. The Windows operating system still makes use of DOS today or provides a command prompt environment reflective of the DOS system.

Order your adverse possession: how have squatter's rights been affected by the new 'land registration' Act 2002 paper at affordable prices!

The Land Registration Act was first enacted in 15, the system is based on two types of estates, freehold and leasehold 'which rest upon wholly different foundations' . The Land Registry and Law Commission were responsible for the introduction of the Draft Land Registration Act . There is a statutory requirement from April 18, that all conveyances of freehold or long leasehold estates must be completed by registration of title at the HM Land Registry. The new Act came into force in October 00

Part of the Act deals with, adverse possession, where the first registered occupier is dispossessed by a squatter who is in factual possession and shows an intention to possess. After the trespasser lets the authorities know of his existence he can issue a caution, this enables him to be listed on the register. If anyone wishes to make a conveyance of the land, it will be mandatory for the Registry to notify the trespasser of anyone else wanting to acquire the 'first registration', held by the registered proprietor, to that land. In Littledale's case the user of the land, put up gates which showed his intention to possess, this is de facto possession, as he had no title to the land, and through the virtues of the Limitation Act legitimised his continuing possession.

The 'Disapplication of Periods of Limitation' is the first section contained within Part . Where there is a mortgagee, they will be entitled to the land if, after 1 years the mortgagor decides to take away the property and has made no effort during the limitation period to ensure payments were made on the account. Once a claim to land has been made, the Land Registry is obliged to give notice to the registered owner of the land and any lender whose interest is noted in the title. However the new Act will ensure that after the tenth year anyone on the charges register will be notified of the new intention and will take the appropriate steps. The courts have the power to trace the concurrent title holder as in Pollard v. Jackson (1), thus ensuring that land has not mistakenly been taken. The first title holder has the defence that 'possession is good against all the world except the person who can shew a good title'. The adverse possessor cannot benefit from overreaching rights; therefore, he will be bound by all existing rights on the register, such as paying a mortgage, and if he is on leased land, he must pay the rent, however may not be liable for not paying other equitable interests or covenants over the land.

The next section is the 'Registration of adverse possessor', which states that even though no period of limitation runs in relation to a registered estate, it will still be possible for a person in adverse possession to be registered in place of the proprietor of a registered estate or rentcharge. Under Schedule 6 of the LRA 00, if the registered owner objects to the registration of the squatter's rights then the squatter's application will be rejected unless he or she comes within one of three exceptions It is unreasonable for the squatters application to be rejected, for example, if the squatter mistakenly believed he owned the land, by some act of the proprietor and it would be unconscionable for the proprietor to deny the squatter the rights he believed he had; Secondly, the squatter is entitled to be the registered proprietor, for example, where the squatter contracted to buy the land and paid the purchase price, but the legal estate never transferred to him and; Finally, where a mistake has been made in relation to the boundary of the land, for example, where the dividing walls or fences on an estate were erected in the wrong place and not in accordance with the plans in the title deeds. Encroachment is done frequently by a neighbour who mistakenly takes a piece of land when putting up a fence or, by a licensee who uses land for grazing after the license has expired.

The last section of Part is 'Defences', Schedule 6 refers to the rights of the paper owner and squatter. In relation to this section a squatter can defend an action for possession of the land if they have been in 'adverse possession of the estate for the period of ten years , the Limitation Act requires the squatter to show an intention to possess during the 10 year period or as per Slade J in Powell v McFarlane ' the intention, in one's own name and on one's own behalf, to exclude the world at large, including the owner with the paper title', which will purport to be an overriding interest. Where the proprietor has obtained a judgement for possession of land and takes it, the squatter will be trespassing, which is a criminal offence. However, if after two years from the date of the judgement, the concurrent paper owner did not signify his right to the land, the squatter is entitled to re apply for registration . If successful and the proprietor were to bring fresh proceedings the squatter would have a defence, having an overriding interest and the court would be required to order the registrar to register the squatter as proprietor of the land .

The Law Commission report 'intended to strike a more appropriate balance between landowner and squatter' . This has been achieved in that mere possession will not confer an absolute or possessory title to land, the requirement is registration alone. The fact that an adverse possessor needs to make the Registry aware of his occupancy after 10 years, can be done if you 'send yourself a letter it could be used as proof you are living there' , this relates to the cases that were brought against many of the London Borough Council's, their houses were not properly recorded in their accounts. As in Ellis v. Lambeth B.C. , the squatter claimed possession of a council house worth £00,000.

In Buckingham County Council v. Moran , the facts state, that a neighbour of a plot of land, owned by the Council kept it as his. Moran had uninterrupted use of the land, he kept it clean which showed an intention to possess, therefore his animus possidendi was that he kept it clean, he used the land as his, and therefore excluded others from occupying, at the present time and throughout the duration of the 10 years, as there was no barrier separating the lands. The Council asserted their right by sending the defendant a letter, though nothing materialised after this. It has been shown that '[a]n owner who retains land unused because he has a future intended use of land could be dispossessed' which is part of paragraph 5 Schedule 6 of the Land Registration Act 00. If this case were to be decided today, Moran would be required to assert his right over the land by making an application at the Land Registry after ten years of similar occupation.

"The registered proprietor has one chance […] to terminate a squatter's adverse possession"

This is more logical than the previous system of registering title by adverse possession as it puts a further restraint on people taking other people's land away. The right to enjoy one's property is more recognised as an important human right. If Moran's case were to be considered in today's times, the Council would have won, as they would reply probably 'within a period of three months' , within the two year constraint, as in Mabo v. Queensland (No. ), 'possession, even if lost, gives rise to a right to recover possession, since as between mere possessors prior possession is a better right' . The Limitation Act is in place to ensure that people do not sleep on their rights.

The American Revolution was primarily an economic rebellion. This would help a lot of people and it did. People were not satisfied with their economic situation so they to work on it so they could improve it. America was always and still is the most powerful country in the whole world. We have powers to destroy or help almost anybody we want, but there has to be a reason to do so. The fact that we have more equipment it's because we are a richer country, but this country wouldn't be rich if we didn't had to pay taxes. Money was also involved with independence. Colonists help each other economically and other ways to live in appeasement.

The American Revolution was the one responsible for may good things. It helped a lot of slaves who worked for America and it helped a lot of people to have independence. This mainly helped the slaves. They were set free because they fought in the war between the British and the Americans. Even though they fought against the Americans, they still got emancipated. The American Revolution was the beginning point for a lot of colonists. Colonists depended on economy and on the government, even though that they thought that they had a government that was trying to buy them. It was said that the government was trying to buy the colonists with cheap tea, which the colonists thought that it was unfair. So they decided to do something about it and they did, they wouldn't let anybody mess with their rights. They formed a strike and they fought if it was necessary if they had to. Every colonist should have the right to say their thoughts and they should be respected. Maybe people were forgetting that we are human beings and not animals. We should have our own rights to say our own opinion no matter what the consequences are. Colonists risked their lives to have equal rights and to have more economic resources.

The American Revolution left bad good things behind. Colonists had conflicts with other countries because being unfair to America. They fought against other countries most of the goods that they had were from here, thanks to the slaves who worked and did most of the labor for Americans. That's why I'm glad that they were freed and a lot of them were rewarded. People had the right of being freed. I don't know who invented that we should have slave, and why were most of the slave necessarily had to be black. Did being black mean something back then if it's just a color. Anybody who would want to be emancipates should work their way out so they can be free. They shouldn't let others work for their freedom. Nobody should force anyone to pay for something that is being charges unfairly; unless they use violence they might force people to pay them. That is still not right. If a government is in dept with his the country he should work his way out so he can pay them and not the colonists.

Most of the deaths that occurred during the American Revolution were being unfair. Colonists died because they sacrificed to have more power, or at least the same power that other people have. Having more power on the colonies wasn't agreeable to other countries or to other people. The Boston massacre was most likely compared to this. Soldiers just started to shoot at the crowd for no reason. I know that they had to defend themselves but this wasn't necessary. Soldiers didn't even know where did the shot come from. Colonists also lived from trading. Even thought most of the goods came out of America, colonists still didn't have other goods that were needed. Tea was of the popular thing that was traded a lot. It was cheap but this was because the government had to find new revenues to collect money and pay for any depts. That the country might have. Great Britain helped the colonists a lot also. A lot of goods or raw materials were exported form there to America. The Stamp Act tried to resolve America's conflict because the economy was very bad. It did helped, but not a lot and America still needed to find ways to go high economically.

Order custom research paper on not sure

Aggressiveness is a word that should have never been invented. Colonists fought but with a good reason. To protect their territory was their major reason. I don't say that we should never use violence but you wont let somebody take a way something that has belonged to you for along period of time. Colonists were aggressive but because they had to. If somebody doesn't do anything to you, you should not do anything to them because you might end up losing just like the British did. They tried to win the war but they couldn't. They couldn't because like I said, America is the most powerful country in the world.

The American Revolution was a revolution that helped Americans a lot. It helped other countries as well but some people were not happy with the new changes that the revolution had brought to American lives.

Jane Eyre has to be a very strong girl to endure the kinds of treatment she did at her Aunt's house. Being locked in a red room, as a punishment today would be unthinkable, but Jane endured it. Jane ends up going to Lowood, a school for orphan girls. The situation Jane is in is not idyllic and most of the people their treat her badly. Jane does meet a nice girl their named Helen, but later on Helen dies of consumption due to a typhus epidemic. Jane ends up spending eight years in Lowood, six years as a student and two as a teacher.

After finding out her soon to be husbands' dead wife is in fact alive, Jane flees Thornfield.

At this point in the book, Charlotte Bronte could take this story and do whatever she pleases. I think this point is what really gets the reader wanting to find out what happens to Jane. Jane has endured so much in her young life that you find yourself feeling sorry for her and wanting her to find true happiness.

Of course, Bronte chose to have Jane in one more dilemma when St. John asks Jane to marry him and go to India with him. Jane agrees to go to India until she realizes she cannot abandon her true love, Rochester.

Buy custom Jane Eyre term paper

Jane heads back to Thornfield only to find it has been burned down by Bertha, who died in the fire. The fire left Rochester blind and missing one hand.

Amazingly, after all this Jane and Rochester rebuild their relationship and marry.

I found this story to be incredibly far fetched. I really don't think Bronte should have had Jane meet back up with Rochester. I got enticed thinking she was going to India. I thought that would make for and exciting read.

The book was written in 1847 and I am sure at that time people would have enjoyed the story. These days, though, I think people look at things more realistically and obviously this story was extremely fictional.

I think Bronte's purpose in writing "Jane Eyre" was to entertain and tell a wild story. The whole time I was reading this book I couldn't help but think how creative Bronte was. The details and characters were amazing, and it truly made you feel like you were a part of it.

Jane Eyre is a very passionate woman who knows what she wants. She has seen and been through a lot in her life, and yet she ends up being extremely strong. I think some of the things she said and thought were very deep, my favorite thing that she said was "To be together is for us to be at once as free as in solitude, as gay as in company. We talk, I believe, all day long to talk to each other is but a more animated and an audible thinking. All my confidence is bestowed on him, all his confidence is devoted to me; we are precisely suited in character'perfect concord is the result".

Jane deserves to be a happy woman, and by this statement, it expresses her love for her life and her husband.

I would recommend this book to anyone who isn't afraid to feel for Jane and enter her world.

Like any other subjects, Philosophy of the Human Person has its own importance. But what is really the significance of this subject that we should take it seriously and not regard it simply as a part of the curriculum? What's in it that makes it equally important with the major subjects?

For me, I think that this subject is really important and must be a concern to everyone since it is about us humans. It would teach us how to achieve humanness. At the same time it would reveal to us the vulnerability of man to become inhuman. It would also be a great help of knowing how to live our lives, how to deal with the things that would come our way. It would make us understand some things in the world we live in. Maybe it can provide answers to some questions we've been asking ourselves and eventually be able to find our true identity. I also think that it would make me understand more the meaning of words such as life, love, morality and freedom which are not just mere words.

I guess this subject would be a help too in widening my thinking. I would be gaining more knowledge since I would be exposed to different views from different people.

There are many images of the Church that we already know. In the Scripture,

the Church was presented to us as the mustard seed, the vineyard of God, the hidden

treasure, the leaven and many more. Such images were used because going back to

the biblical past the leaven and the mustard were of major use. In the modern sense what would be our image of the Church?

For our group, we chose bridge to represent the Church. A bridge connects one

two places, just like the Church which connects us to God. Its like that we are on one end

and God at the other end. To get there, the Church helps us. It serves as an intermediary

to knowing God and Jesus.

The architect of this bridge is God Himself, the one who built is Jesus and the

one who lights the way is the Holy Spirit. The one who decides to pass the bridge are the

members of the Church. Along the way they are guided by the Spirit.

In our work, you could see that the pictures there includes all kinds of people --- rich, poor,

young, old. We want to show that this bridge is open for all. There are no qualifications in order

to be a member of the Church, you need not pay any membership fee.

You could also notice that in the picture, they are headed by a priest. Just like in the Church,

the priest are the ones who guides the followers. They are like the apostles who

Illusions Richard Bach

Illusions by Richard Bach is about one mans journey on the path to becoming more connected with all that he can do. It focuses on two main characters Richard (the writer) and Donald Shimoda. The main point in the story is that everything in life, even life it self is an illusion so people can do amazing things if they put their minds to it. The most important point made in the bock is from when Donald says, "Ok, I'm the son of God, so are we all; I'm the savior, but so are you."

The story begins with Richard flying a bi-plane somewhere near Ferris, Illinois. Well that's not the very beginning. In the very beginning there is a piece on a person who became a savior. The story begins that there once was a savior from the Holy Land of Indiana. The basic plot of this part of the story is that a man chooses to be a messiah and then tells the God one-day that he would no longer like to be and quits.

We then open up with Richard flying his air plane over a field in Ferris, Illinois and spot another plane. Curious about what another plane was doing all the way out here he decides to enquire and lands his plane next to it. The owner of the plane is leaning near the back wheel of the plane. What Richard notices, as weird about the plane is that it looks brand-new, no oil spots, and no bugs at all. He says it looks as if it had just appeared at that moment. The story goes on to explain that the owner of the other plane is Donald Shimoda. It is revealed in a dream that Donald is the messiah that quit that is spoken of in the beginning of the book. From there Donald does some pretty amazing things and Richard cannot understand why or how.

Order custom research paper on Illusions

The first miracle he did was getting a little girl who was deafly afraid of heights to go for a ride in his airplane; they were selling airplane rides. The amazing part that kind of typed me off to the fact that Donald was no ordinary man was that he got the girl to fly by explaining to her that in another life she died from an incident involving heights and that's why she was afraid then.

He also never needed to put gas in his tank, clean his plane or tighten any loose bolt, as Richard described it these things seem to have taken care of themselves. Throughout the story, like I said be fore he does some pretty miraculous things like for instance he walked on water and swam in land. Richard was also able to do this but not until he had seen Donald do it first. I think this is another important key or idea in the book. We can only do things that we believe and we only believe things that we have either seen or that has been proven true. And until we see that, for instance someone can walk through a wall or indisputable evidence is given saying that a man can fly we will not be able to do it. In Richard's case however he has someone doing these thing right in front of him or her and with second guessing them and just believing he was able to do them also. This can be put in retrospect with the time Donald walks though a wall and Donald attempts to but before he does he says that walking through walls is impossible and because of this he is unable to.

Donald also had a unique way of explaining himself. For instance with the walking through the wall thing he agreed that it is in fact impossible to walk through walls but everything is an illusion. Richard was not able to put it together at the time but I did. If you can believe without the shadow of a doubt that everything is an illusion then a wall is not a wall and a desk is not a desk and a tree is not a tree. But all these things and all others are illusions or projections with no mass or matter to them and if this is true then passing through them is the same as walking through air, you just do it.

In another spot in the story Donald makes that statement that we do only what we want in life and Richard tried to correct him by saying we do whatever we want to do in life as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. Donald convinced him other wise by creating a "Vompire" that asked Richard for a little blood so that it could live. Of course Richard declined proving Donald's point that we do whatever we want, regardless of whether someone else will be hurt or not.

He does many other things that he is able to explain throughout the rest of the story. In the end of the story Donald is shot by a man with a shot gun in his plane. Richard not knowing what else to do begins to run away but thinks about it and turns around. In talking to Donald before he "dies" he asks him if this had to happen and Donald replied that it didn't but he likes the drama of it and dies. He then visits Richard in a dream that is in some ways real. He explains the Richard that he has not died that was just his way of exiting one diminsion permenatly and opting to leave in another exclusively.

has on the human body. Since the beginning of time, human have consumed beverages made by fermenting grains or the juices of vine-ripened fruits. The ¡§healthy,¡¨ portly appearance of Western Europeans, often associated with engraving from the time of Charles Dickens¡¦s England and before, can be attributed to the heavy consumption of beer and wine by the populace. Beer, in particular, found its way into nearly every meals as either beverage or ingredient added liberally to soups and porridge (Schivelbusch, 1). It should be understood that this pattern of consumption not only provided food in the form carbonhydrates and calories to an often-impoverished diet but also afforded a much safer beverage to consume than the septic water of the day. Indeed, at the time of the U.S Civil War, beer was often referred to as ¡§ liquid bread¡¨ (Bumham, 1). Until recently, attitudes toward alcohol have relatively benign. For the thousands of years, alcohol has been regarded by society as a temporary escape from reality and the tension of everyday life. People use alcohol to reduce stress, to relax, and to enjoy a good evening. This should be the real purpose of alcohol drinking. However, drinking alcohol is regarded as a negative action by society and the government. This is not because of the action of drinking itself but because of the abuse people undertake with such an action. The average age when youth first try alcohol is 11 years for boys and 1 years for girls. According to research by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, adolescents who begin drinking before 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 1. There are many causes for drinking alcohol. For example, some people have developed a habit and drink alcohol before dinner everyday. Other use alcohol as a method to get rid of their stress. Some people admitted drinking alcohol when they were upset, alone, or bored. Teenagers are so sensitive that after they have a confrontation or an argument, they tend to turn to alcohol to relieve uncomfortable feelings. Moreover, there are many advertisements that shows alcohol as a very attractive drink. This cause a situation in which teenagers think that drinking alcohol is kind of cool and makes them look like adults. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, about 80 percent of high school senior report having used alcohol. On average, alcohol consumption begins around age1. Ten million 1 to 0 year-olds reported drinking at least one alcoholic drink in the 0 days prior to a nationwide survey. Information gathered by Mothers Against Drunk Driving finds students spends $5.5 billion on alcohol annually more than the total amount spent on soft drink, milk, juice, coffee, tea, or books.

It clearly contends that drinking alcohol cause traffic crashes and deaths in teenagers. At sixteen, many young American are legally able to obtain their license. In the United States, drinking and driving accidents account for the number one cause of death among all ages group, especially young adults and late teenagers. Recent statistic indicate that in 18, 8 percent of fatal accidents in the United States were alcohol-related, as 51 percent of fatal accidents on New Year¡¦s Day. Furthermore, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has indicated that lower fatality rates involving motor vehicle crashes, pedestrian accidents and other injuries occur when the legal drinking age is 1 or over. The national effort to reduce motor vehicle deaths and injuries of youth people between age 15 and 0 has been a success story. Although far too many youth still die tragically in these crashes. Fatality reduction over the past decade, especially those that are alcohol related, have been remarkable. (Meister, 64)

Drinking alcohol will also promote violent crime such as rape, abuse, theft, assault, and murder in youth. When teenagers drink alcohol, they easily get out of control and more likely to assault people or even shoot someone for minor problems. For example, 4 in 10 violent offenders said they were drinking whey they committed their crime, and alcohol-related deaths outnumber death related to illicit drugs from four to one. According to Center on Addiction and Substances Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), 55 percent of the female victims reported consuming alcohol or taking drugs at time of rape, and 7 percent of these women believed their assailants were under the influence of drugs or alcohol; 74 percent of men who claimed to have raped said they were drinking or using drugs at time of the assault, 75 of these men perceived that their victims were using intoxicants as well (McNamara-Meis, 0).

There is a clear relationship existed between alcohol use and grade point average (GPA). According to the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information, in spite of its illegality, a lot of college students buy and drink alcohol as one of the most common forms of entertainment on campus. For instance, 41 percent of college students confessed not only do they drink alcohol for fun but also they drink five or more drinks at least once in two weeks. Furthermore, at both two year and four year colleges, the more students drink alcohol, the lower grades they tend to get. Students with GPAs of D¡¦s or F¡¦s drank three times as much as those who earned A¡¦s. This was supported by a11 study showing that while A students averaged .6 drinks per week and B students 5.5 drinks, C students averaged 7.6 drinks per week while D or F students averaged 10.6. Almost one-third of the students at four years colleges miss class and nearly one quarter of students cannot do well on a test or project because of alcohol or other drug use (Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, 15).

Finally, should the legal drinking age be lowered? Drinking is a big problem that cause many teenager deaths in the United States. However, many people still argue that the legal age for drinking should be reduced to eighteen. This issues has been brought up many times, but the law hasn¡¦t been changed since the change to twenty-one in 180.The legal drinking age should not be lowered because if it were lowered, the rates of injuries and deaths from traffic crashes, violent crimes, and alcoholism would increase. Even thought the minimum legal drinking age of 1, teenagers still have easy access to alcohol from commercial and social sources, so the existing law of legal drinking age is 1 should be strongly enforced because it prevent injuries and deaths-related to alcohol use among youth. The government figured that if they raise the drinking age, the percentage of deaths by drunk driving would decrease. Statistics show that in recent years, 45,000 people were killed in car accidents, and if alcohol wasn¡¦t involved in those accidents then 10,000 of those who died would have live. If drinking age were eighteen, then this figure would increase by about 1,000 (Olson 4). One of the main reason that the age should not be change back to eighteen is that many eighteen-year-olds are still in high school and can distribute what they purchase to young peers. More than one-third of high school seniors drink to get drunk and if the age was lowered, that number would increase (O¡¦Malley, Johnson, and Bachman, 1).

One o of the biggest problems people cope with today is the increasing of teenager drinkers. The effects of taking alcohol are dangerous domestic violence, crimes, accidents, sexual assault or becoming infected with HIV/AIDS. Youth are our hope; they are the future doctors, lawyers, artists, clergy, engineers, and leaders of this nation, we must take the responsibility to assure that these youths reach their potential. With strong commitment of resources and the recognition that we are responsible, we can combat alcohol abuse on youths and give them the education-academic, spiritual and social that they deserve.

The types of nicknames which are used for Ecstasy are E, XTC, Adam, and Essence. The way in which this designer drug is ingested is by swallowing it like a pill, because it is actually in the form of a pill, like Advil or Tylenol. It would usually be stamped with a logo which would appeal to young users. The short term effects on the body which it creates is, "increased heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature; jaw and teeth clenching/muscle tension, hypertension, dehydration, chills and/or sweating, nausea, blurred vision, faintness, dizziness, confusion, insomnia, paranoia." It usually last for 4 to 6 hours. The way in which it is most commonly obtained is in "raves" or "clubs", also urban city centrals, like downtown. The cost can vary, there isn't an average price. The long term effects which it could have on a person is, "depression, sleep disorders, drug craving, persistent elevation of anxiety, paranoia, aggressive and impulsive behavior, rash. As well more severe is muscle breakdown, hyperthermia, kidney failure, cardiovascular system failure, liver damage, brain damage, paralysis."

For some reason there is an impairment relationship between teens, drugs and music. The reason why would have to be, in our day and age drugs seem to appeal to teens for many reasons. It can range from trying to fit in, the thought of running away from there problems, to thinking it can make a person happy. The reason why music gets involved is because depending on the drug it would help the person calm down or feel the music. Take for example "rave music", if listening to in normal state it is very fast and really can't feel the music. But it is believed that once a drug (Ecstasy) is put into the mix the person can feel the beat or everything just slows down.

The reason why teens are attracted to drugs more than young adults who can afford them is because, some teen's feel that drugs are the way to fit in and everybody is doing it. While young adults know better and the only reason why they would do it is because there addicted.

Learning through the observation or intimidation of role models is the biggest problem with someone in the family doing drugs. Because if it is a parent, then maybe the child might want to do it because they look up to them and the same goes for siblings. Also it can break a family apart because if it is a child, the parents might not trust the child anymore or even worse kick them out.

In my opinion I believe I think teens use it more than adults. Because the teen years are the trial and error times for most people growing up. And are the years they do things which when they grow up feel it was very dumb to do the things they did, and probably don't do it wouldn't do it anymore. The sex I don't think matters, because if your going to do it, its not like its something which is bias on sex or race or anything. Because the out come is the same for everyone. The wealth is important because depending on how rich the person is can decide on what types of drugs they can get. Some drugs are more expensive then others. I don't think it matters if you have just arrived from a different country or have lived in that country for a while, a junky will be a junky no matter were they live. The only thing that could make it different is if the immigrant comes from a country were drugs are not allowed. And in our day and age I do not believe there is a certain place like that anymore.

The reasons why people will do drugs are as follows, depression. Because if a person is depressed than they might feel that if they do drugs they won't be depressed or they could run away from depression for a while. Trying to fit in I believe is another reason why people might do drugs. Because if someone is a loner they might try to make friends by any means necessary. Peer pressure is also a major reason because if a group of friends are at a party and there passing a drug around there is a lot of pressure on the person not to do it, Because they might feel that there peers would think there not cool no more or might not want to be there friends no more.

Drugs and violence are related because once a person is doing drugs they do not have control over themselves any more and violence can occur.

Raves are good to people who like the music, that's just about like anything in this world. If a person likes going to place for a reason they won't stop. Raves are clean in the sense of dirt but for sure not in the sense of drugs. Raves would have to be one of the main places drugs could be found or sold or used. Because Raves are not to commercially based, and usually underground or in large areas, so there are no major sponsors so drugs would be easier to get in. Like take for example if "Coke" was sponsoring it, then it would probably be extremely difficult to bring anything in because "coke" has a reputation.
