Implementation

In order for Circus Circus to compete within the industry implementation of different market strategies would be their primary concern. One such implementation would be the research of potential markets both internationally and within the United States.

The company will form specialized task force teams. This could be through the use of either internal sources (the firm's intellectual capital), or professional consultants. These task teams will focus on researching new strategies the company plans to take, through market surveys, questionnaires, and industry reports. This will enable management to adhere to the needs of its customers.

These task teams will focus on researching new strategies the company plans to take, through market surveys, questionnaires, and industry reports. This will enable management to adhere to the needs of its customers.

The company will negotiate with strategic alliance candidates such as Harrah's, and MGM Grand Hotel and Casino Resorts. They will also work on joint ventures, and potential mergers with other Gaming companies.

The Company needs to maintain their current position while further expanding throughout the country as well as internationally. This expansion will be both in its current business line, as well as into new market segments. Many of the Circus traditional and new competitors are expanding by establishing businesses in other states. This will be a major cause of fewer visitors to Nevada. Circus will only be able to combat this by having its own casinos and gambling resorts at the locations where potential competitors are present or they can form strategic alliances and joint ventures. One such venture could be with Harrah's Entertainment who has a large market presence in Australia and New Zealand where their market strategy appeals to the high-end customers. This alliance would potentially create the opportunity for Circus to refocus their company's operations, with positive impact on their revenues and the newly found up-scale customer base.

There is no second chance for a first impression. Perception has never been random, since the beginning of time it has been human nature to judge others before really getting a chance to know them. People immediately cast others into stereotypes in every situation they form a schema, or an organized set of thoughts about something containing properties and uses. These schemas effect the way people carry themselves around others. Schemas are usually formed with in eight seconds of getting the initial impression of a person. This by psychologists is know as the ?eight-second rule,? where people have been proven to form hypothesizes about others with in eight seconds of meeting or seeing an individual for the first time. Human nature has never been stated more accurately than in one little phrase, yet I have never fully understood the clich' until just recently. As I sat here in the computer lab last week I noticed how I judge those around me. Although she speaks nothing, I have already put together an assumption about ?the girl sitting to my left? her personality, work habits and attitude through a semantic analogy, or forming a link between physical appearance and personality. Wearing gray pajama pants and a comfortable fleece sweatshirt while holding a dark cloth blanket, I have understood in my mind that she likes to be cozy and secure. She seems to be a girl with a very soft nice voice, even though I have never heard her talk. As ?the girl sitting to my left? uses earphones while at the computer, I put together that she probably is very considerate of others. These assumptions could, for all I know is false and inaccurate, but as a human being I realize my judgments on others. I came to this realization also while studying the guy behind me. Just as my other subject, ?the guy behind me? seems to be very ?uncool? to say the least. His oversized plaid jacket, tight laced large sneakers, and tight jeans combining with his out of control curly hair and spectacles allow myself to automatically place ?the guy behind me? in a stereotype of nerds. The way he crosses his legs also leads me to believe he is one of those that probably enjoy computers and Dungeons & Dragons, yet for all I know this guy could be the best basketball player at Catawba. By his appearance I have already made assumptions about his lifestyle, or formed something referred to as Functional Association. After realizing the extent of judgement I cast on others, I began to contemplate if others would place me in certain stereotypes if I didn?t appear as I do; so, I decided to form my own experiment. I decided to make myself salient, or stand out, to better see my impressions on people. I began a three-day experiment where I would wear my not-so attractive glasses, a hooded sweatshirt, and Velcro shoes from Wal-Mart to dress like one would call a ?bum.? Of my many experiences of the weekend, three stood out from all the rest my attendance at the soccer game, my trip to the Bar Charlotte nightclub, and being introduced to new friends. No girl in their right mind would dance with a guy with big ugly glasses. For we all know they have already formed something called an illusory correlation, or a memory of a negative or distasteful person or instance. Here I began to look at not only girls, but also guy?s faces to see what sort of an effect my appearance had on the way they viewed me. Sure enough I was getting looks of disgust from some, while faces of amusement from others; here I began to realize the brutality of human nature. First impressions are everything in today?s world. When dressed like a nerd with a straight-billed, over-sized ball cap, a greasy hooded sweatshirt tucked in urkel-style pulled up pants, I cast an impression to many spectators at this past weekend?s soccer match. Many parents looked as though I was repulsive, some thought I was joking, while others thought that it was my real lifestyle. Before I knew it I felt eyes from all directions casting judgements upon me. I began to smile comprehending a little more about perception of others, but I learned even more when my friend Katie introduced me to new acquaintances. When meeting attractive girls, most guys tend to attempt to look their very best. With my normal testing outfit I gained my uneasy looks from Katie?s friends and soon they had formed opinions of me?one of which was their romantic disinterest in me. They began to better accept me, though as I conversed with them more, yet never anything more than acceptance. Later that night, I decided to put my contacts in for the first time in three days and I soon realized the effect of appearance. For the first time, the girls were attracted to me because of my appearance and to them I replied to their stares with ?I?m not as ugly as you first thought, huh?? With these experiences I began to see first hand how people judge others and place people into schemas. After these encounters, I thought back to when I first arrived here at Catawba College, and the many assumptions I made of people that, in fact, turned out to be false. To the naked eye, my friend Larry seems to be a weird homosexual male into drama and musical theatre, but after one early morning session at the computer lab I began to realize that Larry is a funny and enjoyable fellow. Here I passed judgement on others before getting to know them, much like my first impression of my good friend Heath. Heath seemed to be a dumb male with his Beavis and Butthead type laugh and his testostoronic voice. I began to know, though, that Heath is not only a smart individual, with his sat score of 1480, but also a talented singer and lacrosse player where I first thought of him as clumsy and stupid. Stupidity is a common label people tend to place others. Stephen, a recent friend of mine, appeared by his diction, attitude, and demeanor to be a person not of high intelligence or extensive vocabulary at all. As I came to find out, Stephen was very smart, earning a high school GPA of .8, and having intentions of a political science pre-law major. Furthermore, you justly cannot judge a book by its cover. Throughout not only my experiments, but also my experiences I have grasped a great comprehension of how people form quick assumptions about others. Through my first-hand experiments and acquaintances I have seen human nature, and in the course of my observations I learned that we all, even myself, are victims of this judgmental view of others. Impressions, formed by all people, truly affect your interactions in everyday life.

Abortion is the end of a pregnancy before viability. It is the termination of the process of gestation after the time when the zygote attaches itself to the uterine wall, but before the fetus is possibly capable of surviving on its own. In the present day, Abortion is an extremely controversial issue. Numerous people have strong beliefs when it comes to abortion, whether they are in favor for the act or against it. Being a woman of strong Catholic faith and growing up in a home enriched with Christian values, I have a firm stance against abortion. I am proud to say that I am pro-life.

I believe, no matter how early abortion takes place that it is murder. The human life begins at the moment of conception. To intentionally kill the life inside the womb is absolute murder. One of the most heart wrenching thoughts about abortion is that the individual being killed has utterly no say in his or her life. Women say because the baby is in their bodies it is their choice of whether or not to keep the child. What about the baby's body? No true mother, once their child is born and living in this world would even think of killing their baby. Women must think of murdering their baby in their own home and then apply those emotions to the thought of abortion. The womb is the baby's home, to grow, sleep, eat, the baby can feel pain. The baby, not yet born, is a living, breathing soul.

Women receive abortions for various reasons. Financial issues and relationship problems are just two of the many selfish excuses women give themselves in order to undergo an abortion. Adoption is a competent alternative for abortion, but of course, in our society, adoption is most likely too much work for women seeking to dispose of their baby in a short amount of time. Being an individual with pro-life beliefs, I know that if I was ever in the predicament that some women are in, with unwanted pregnancies, I would turn to my faith in God, pursue help in my Parish, and research adoption agencies. There are several couples that are unable to have children who would feel so blessed if they could receive a healthy baby from me.

Abortion, in almost all situations in which it is called for seems as if it is the easy way out. Women have to stop and think, though, before they make this drastic decision, if they want to take a life away or if they would be the catalyst of a miracle for a couple that desires a child. I believe abortion should be illegal in the United States of America. Murder is a horrific crime that is certainly illegal. Abortion is murder. Abortion should be illegal.

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what youre going to get.

--Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) Forrest Gump

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. Youre stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when theres nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, theres a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But theyre gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if youre desperate enough to eat those, all youve got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

chocolate museum

Heres a dream come true for chocolate lovers'a museum devoted to the subject where you can feel, smell, taste and see chocolate. It opened on 1st October 1 and is situated in the picturesque old dockland area in the centre of Cologne.

You can see cacoa trees as well as other plants in a tropical greenhouse and experience the heat and humidity of the tropics there. You can also learn about the 000 year history of the cultivation of cacoa.

If you have never visited a chocolate factory, here you can see one in miniature and watch your favourite varieties of chocolates produced. There are even see-through panels in the sides of the machines to allow visitors to watch them work. To top off the experience, sample warm chocolate at the pretty fountain'000 kg of chocolate are given away free here each year.

The museum also takes you on a journey through time. Find out how the people of Central America used the cacao beans 000 years ago and see the artefacts they used in their chocolate ceremonies. When the Spanish introduced chocolate to Europe it was a rare and expensive product reserved for the aristocracy. This led to the production of beautiful and expensive porcelain and silver articles from which to drink it. The final part of this tour of chocolates history shows 1th century production with associated boxes, tins, packets, posters and other chocolate related items.

There are many other themes in the Chocolate Museum and this is something not to be missed by anybody who loves chocolate

diff types of choclolates

Couverture

This is a top of the range type of chocolate. It is very pure with a high percentage of cocoa butter giving it an excellent flavour. It is usually used for handmade chocolates and decoration. Normally it is tempered before use.

Plain Chocolate

This is the best chocolate to use in desserts, cakes, etc but you must check the percentage of cocoa solids which vary in plain chocolate from 0% to 70%. The higher the percentage, the better the flavour.

Milk Chocolate

This popular chocolate is quite low in cocoa solids, only containing about 0%, and it is sweeter than plain chocolate. Generally, it should not be used for cooking.

White Chocolate

This chocolate gets its flavour from cocoa butter because it contains no cocoa solids. If you use it in cooking or for decorating, you must melt it very carefully.

Cocoa

This is an easy and economical product to use for giving a chocolate flavour to your cooking. It is made from cocoa mass after the cocoa butter has been removed.

Drinking Chocolate

This is much sweeter than cocoa and is generally not as good to use for cooking. It makes a lovely comforting drink, though, on a cold miserable day!

Other Chocolate Products

Chocolate cake covering this usually has quite a poor chocolate flavouring and you can make a better covering using real chocolate or cocoa.

Chocolate chips normally used mixed in cakes, either big ones or individual ones. They can also be used as decoration.

Do you feel guilty when you eat chocolate? Do you worry about putting on weight or ruining your teeth? Worry no more - chocolate can actually be good for you!

Why do you think that many of us crave chocolate in times of stress or depression? It is because chocolate contains many substances that can actually improve mental well being. One of its ingredients, phenylethylamine, has a feel good effect on the brain and another ingredient, anandamide, helps these effects to travel through the brain more easily. Cannabis has the same effect but somebody would have to eat over 0lbs (about kilos) at one time to achieve a high. Of course there is a downside. The phenylethylamine may cause migraines in susceptible people.

If all that wasnt enough, the brain releases serotonin and endorphins in response to eating chocolate. Serotonin has a beneficial effect on mood and endorphins give the feelings of energy and well being.

So, chocolate is good for us as far as mood is concerned but what about our physical health? It is true that good chocolate has a high proportion of cocoa butter, a fat, but it contains no cholesterol. If you are worried about the caffeine in chocolate, just remember you would need to eat 10oz of plain (semi-sweet) or 0oz of milk chocolate to consume the same amount of caffeine as is contained in an average cup of coffee.

As long as you dont eat chocolate covered sweets or candies containing a lot of sugar, even your teeth wont suffer. Chocolate contains substances that actually reduce the kinds of bacteria causing tooth decay.

All of this information is good news for chocoholics especially as that word is a misnomer. Chocolate is not addictive, nobody will have to suffer through cold turkey to stop eating it. We can truthfully say that eating chocolate is good for us. It improves our mood and psychological well being, it doesnt increase cholestoral levels and it even inhibits tooth decay causing bacteria. What more could you ask from your favourite food?

I heard the blaring horn ricochet through the cul-de-sac in front of my house. Desperately juggling my beach things, I shuffled toward the waiting car and hurled them into the trunk. As the car pulled away, it seemed like another summer day. I did not know I would learn an indispensable lesson. By the end of the day, I would recognize that I should never judge anyone.

We sought out a vacant place in the sand and arranged our things. The beach was beautiful, while teeming with people. I went with my girlfriend, Caroline, and her three girlfriends. These girls were spoiled, snobby and felt as if they were god's gift to earth. Their bodies oiled up, wearing Burberry bathing suites with matching headbands and Gucci sunglasses. Each one of them could have starred along side Alicia Silverstone in the movie "Clueless." As I lay relaxing on the beach, I ease dropped into the girl's conversation and they began examining other girls their age; they enjoyed criticizing their bathing suites, their looks, and attitudes. Ew look at the one in the suit with the stripes. Who is she kidding? They also examined what they considered "botched nose jobs," with out, even knowing if they in fact had surgery. Of course, there was not a chance that they pass up pointing out cottage cheese or cellulite. I rolled over all relaxed to look them all "You girls shouldn't be so critical of others, it's just not right." It seemed as if they all knew that they were not even close to being flawless, and that judging seemed to be a standard practice in a these teenage girls life. My girlfriend's best friend Jessica was sitting on the other side of me and tapped me on the shoulder. "It may sound appalling, but everyone has done it sometime. We are just simply entertaining ourselves, despite how distressing it seems."

After a long pause in their assessment, I saw a girl close to our semi circle of chairs. I saw nothing wrong with her face, bathing suit, or hair but something was not right. Her posture noticeably illustrated that she was trying to amend her bodys appearance. Her shoulders were heaved backward, so her chest protruded unnaturally. This made her ribs jut through her skin to form tiny, misplaced peaks. Lastly, her stomach inverted so deeply that it seemed there was no leeway for her to breath. I felt bad for this young woman because I knew in a matter of time the critics who were sitting with me would notice her. Jokingly I whispered to them, "Have fun with that girl over there." They finally noticed the girl, and not bothering to find out if she could hear their conversation, my girlfriend's friends sarcastically remarked on how artificial her form appeared. As she turned to take her seat, she directed her back toward us revealing a surprise. From the nape of her neck to the small of her back stretched a substantial, crimson scar.

I stared at her wondering if she had overheard. My guilt rapidly expanded and plummeted to the pit of my stomach like a stone to a river bottom. I decided to hole up near the concession stand, and besides, I was thirsty anyways. I needed to remove myself from the situation. While I ordered, I described the mishap to an acquaintance that I had coincidentally bumped into. Before I could express how sincerely horrible I felt, the girl with the crimson scar strolled up right behind us. She had been less than ten feet away. She heard everything I said except for my reaction. I looked at my friend shocked, said a prompt good bye, and hurried back to my chair.

For the duration of the day, I remained virtually silent. My guilty conscience tumbled and swirled within me. A blunder was made, feelings were injured, and I was at the root of the ordeal. I can only imagine the pain that I had inflicted on that girl. She has to live everyday of her life with that unsightly mark and there I was drawing attention to it. I realize now that there is no advantage from judging others. To be an accomplice in this habit cannot be justified by saying, I dont realize I do it," or everyone else was, so I joined in. Whether the victim of criticism can hear it or not, it is still a waste of breath.

Good Versus Evil

The theme of good versus evil is prevalent throughout the novels Animal Farm by George Orwell and Debt of Bones by Terry Goodkind. The protagonists Napoleon from Animal Farm and Abigail born of Helsa, from Debt of Bones, instil this theme throughout the novel by utilizing social stereotypes. Through similar and different ways the characters actions created by the authors evoke the theme good versus evil. Each character achieves their goals and has motivations that contribute to the theme good versus evil and bring out the true nature of each of the characters.

The essential nature of the character Napoleon is evil and selfish. Shortly after the animal rebellion, Napoleon's true nature is revealed when he seizes the milk and the apples for his own benefit. "What's going to happen to all that milk?" said someone. "Never mind the mild, comrades!" Cried Napoleon, placing himself in front of the buckets. (Orwell 0) He is not interested in creating a utopian society for the animals; his only intention is acquiring total control. Abby's essential nature is opposing to Napoleons characteristic rendering her selfless. Abby is very kind-hearted and only wants the best for people. She goes to the Wizard Zorander in hopes of saving her family from the retched monsters the D'Harans. "I am Abigail Born of Helsa. On the grace of my mother's soul, I must see the Wizard Zorander. Please. It is no trivial journey I have made. Lives are at stake." (Goodkind 17) On her journey, Abby acts in a courteous manner to many people and befriends a few. One of the friends she makes is Mariska. Abby tells Mariska her story and with that she wishes Abby luck. "May the good spirits grant that you succeed." (Goodkind ) Since Abby is so kind and generous she is able to complete her journey and succeed in her goals.

Many people have social stereotypical images in their minds. Napoleon is considered "The Bully." He is persistent, offensive, abusive, intimidating with insulting behaviour, he abuses power and unfair penal sanctions which makes the recipients (the animals) feel upset, threatened, humiliated or vulnerable and in turn undermines their self-confidence and causes them to suffer stress. This definition makes Napoleon a perfect candidate for the stereotype of a bully. Napoleon orders the animals around, if not directly then through his henchman Squealer. He gets them to do certain chores, which are sometime backbreaking and gruesome but their suffering does not matter to him because this act makes him feel prosperous. A close acquaintance Squealer, works with Napoleon to help rid the farm of the humans and once they succeed in getting rid of the humans Napoleon sees new light to his power and soon turns Squealer. Napoleon waits for the opportunity and then orders his guard dogs to attack his enemy, Squealer. "There was a terrible baying outside, and nine enormous dogs wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball, who sprang from his place just in time to escape their snapping jaws." (Orwell 61) Once he got rid of Snowball, Napoleon quickly sets himself up as the dictatorial ruler of Animal Farm and begins to shower himself with special privileges. Abigail Born of Helsa is "A Victim," but she is a strong victim, who tries hard to retrieve what is rightfully hers and strives in the right ways to get help to solve her problems. The D'Harans have stolen her family and her town. Without the help of Wizard Zorander Abby is powerless and unable to do anything. As a victim she goes to the Wizard and pleads. "No […] She's only a child! You're condemning my baby to death! There are other children! What kind of a monster are you?" (Goodkind 8) Abby respectfully and innocently goes to the Wizard for help and in the end gets what she deserves.

Both Napoleon and Abby have to face war. Napoleon creates war whereas Abby puts an end to war then retrieves her family and saves her town. Napoleon creates the Battle of the Cowshed "At last [the animals] could stand it no longer. One of the cows broke in the door of the store-shed with her horn…The next moment Mr Jones and his four men were in the store-shed with whips in their hands, lashing out in all directions. Jones and his men suddenly found themselves being kicked and butted from all sides." (Orwell 18) After this battle Napoleon is inspired with the large amount of authority and feels the need to overcome his competition Snowball. Next came the Battle of the Windmill "There were fifteen men and half a dozen guns between them, and they opened fire as soon as they got within fifty yards (of the barn)." (Orwell 114) Napoleon is so inspired by war and with a few wins under his belt he becomes unstoppable. Abby receives all the credit for ending to the war and bringing peace to Pendisan Reach. She gets the help from the Wizard, directs him in what he must do, retrieves her family and the Wizard Zorander's family and then, gets rid of the D'Harans. "This is Abigail, born of Helsa," the Wizard called out to the people gathered. "She is the one who went to Aydindril to seek my help. Though she has no magic, it is because of her that you people are free. She cared long enough to beg for your lives." (Goodkind 111) Although the war was long and hard, Abby remained strong and waited for help. Her courage and persistence along with determination made sure that the right thing was to be done. With her family safe and at home and the rest of the village in peace Abby could go on with her life and not have to worry about any more confrontation.

Abby and Napoleon are opposites in actions and personality; their motivations are completely different. Both characters make the good versus evil theme run smoothly through each of the novels because Abby is good and Napoleon is evil and their allies and enemies are easy to distinguish from one another. The key difference is Abby is selfless and Napoleon is selfish and both novels include war but the fights for war are in opposition as well. A prominent theme in both the novels Animal Farm and Debt of Bones of good versus evil is more apparent to the reader with the assistance of Abby and Napoleon.
