Why should we pay money to hospitals by supporting and keeping someone alive who has no chance, and no longer wants to live? If euthanasia was legalized we could put the money toward something worth spending it on. It is not worth spending the money on health care for someone who does not want it. One of the possible reasons euthanasia has not been legalized yet, is because if it were some doctors would be out of jobs. If euthanasia were legalized these doctors and hospital's would not be able to continue to drain the family members pockets any longer. Therefore the hospitals profits would drop. The longer they keep someone alive in their care, the longer they continue to put money into their own pockets. What we need to do is legalize Euthanasia and give a person the right to determine his or her own fate. If the person wants to wait it out and live out the disease, then let them. If that person and their family members can come up with the money to do that, then so be it. But if a person does not want to live out the disease any longer, and the person and their family members cannot come up with the money to support them then give that person the right to do what they want.

Every American at this time has a common law and constitutional right to refuse unwanted medical treatment and equipment. Many believe that this right to die should extend to aid in dying or euthanasia for the terminally ill at their request. Why is it that a person can refuse life sustaining medical treatment and end their life, but a person cannot ask a doctor to aid them in ending their life? It is not right that a person can end their life one way but cannot the other. This raises the question should a person who is no longer mentally capable be able to make such a decision? If euthanasia is legalized everyone should have a statement in their will whether or not they want to live out the disease and suffer in pain or end the life before the disease does. The person in this will should describe in detail what they want done if a disease should go to this extent. This would solve that problem and clarify the wants of that person. It would be somewhat of a will for your life.

The movie that I choose to review was the movie Legends of the Fall. This movie is a story about a family that has three very different sons. This movie represents the passions of family values, of love, and of honor.

Toward the end of his career, he fought in the American-Indian War. He ended his career with seeing the slaughter of thousands of Indians. The Colonel tried very hard to protect his sons from the politics of the world, which was one reason why the family lived out in the country. The wife of the Colonel said that the winters were getting too cold for her, and at that note, she left the countryside to go live in the city.

The three sons in the movie were all quite different from each other. Alfred who was the oldest, was the realistic character in the movie. Alfred will later become a politician and fight in the war. Triston was the middle son, and the wildest. Triston had the heart of a bear but the looks of a cat. He was always out looking for death, for he did not believe in waiting for it to come to him. He was also the Colonel's favorite son. Samuel was the youngest son and the most protected. He could not do much of anything without having one of his brothers right on his back helping him.

In the beginning of the movie, we find that Samuel is engaged to a woman named Susanna. Susanna, in my opinion, becomes the reason why the family keeps falling throughout the movie.

On October 14, 114, the three sons leave home to go fight in the war. Obviously, this is against what the father wants, for he does not believe in fighting war or the cause for it. Throughout the war scene, the three boys are mesmerized by how different the war scene is to what they thought. In the war section of the movie, Samuel is killed. Triston cuts out his heart and sends in home with Alfred, who is injured in the leg. Triston is dismissed from the Army but must go to a hospital for mental illness.

When Triston finally arrives home, Susanna is still living at the house. Alfred has already told her that he loves her and she has said that she does not love him back. Triston finally makes his move on Susanna, and it works, they both fall in love. Soon after, Triston becomes mentally ill again and leaves for an extended amount of time. Susanna tells Triston that she will wait for him forever, because she loves him very much. Triston writes a letter a few months later and tells her to find another husband, because he has become a hunter and has died inside.

Many seasons pass, and the Colonel is hit by a stroke. He still lives but he loses his speech and much of his normal stature. Triston finally returns home and he seems to be content. He finds out that Susanna has married Alfred and now lives in a mansion style house in Helena. Alfred is now a senator and is very high on himself. Triston marries, has two children and seems to be enjoying life for the first time.

Toward the end of the movie, Triston, his father and his brother Alfred become a family like they used to be. Susanna has killed herself because she could not have Triston. Triston dies an old man by a bear attack the same bear that was said to be in his heart.

Earthquakes have the tendency to disrupt many lives. It changes a person's belief that the world they live in is safe and secure place. In After the Quake Haruki Murakami, writes moderate stories about people, not in Kobe, not even directly involved with Kobe at all, but nevertheless caught up in the national aftershock which affects them all in strange, small ways. These stories are inspired by the quake that devastated Kobe, Japan in January 15. The earthquake itself only appears in the background of each tale, but there is a connection between the stories through different devices. After facing sudden, uncontrollable changes in their lives created by external forces each of the characters is struck by his or her own shattering personal earthquake.

In the first story "UFO in Kushiro," Komura an electronics salesman whose life takes a new turn when his wife leaves him after following the coverage of horrors inflicted on people by the earthquakes. She was so absorbed in the devastation of people's lives for "five straight days she spent in front of the television, staring at crumbled banks and hospitals," (Murakami ). It really effected her seeing how a person's life could change with one destructive event. Throughout the first half of the story Komura does not make any effort to talk to his wife to find out why she is so obsessed with earthquake. Later on when she leaves, she explained her departure by simply saying, "The problem is that you never give me anything. Or to put it more precisely, you have nothing inside you that you can give me…living with you is like living with a chunk of air" (5). She is trying to tell him that he never cared enough for her to find out what was wrong with her. He never really understood why she was so upset with watching some unidentified people who she didn't even know.

He was very passive and self-centered who never bothered to look inside his wife's heart and took his relationship with her for granted. On the other hand after seeing how life could change in few moments, Komura's wife realized she should spend it with the people who love her back such as her family " her father was crazy about his youngest daughter and happily paid for her round-trip fares"(5). Her family always made her feel welcome and loved so she leaves her uneventful life to live with people who care for her. Even after she leaves and writes that she'll never come back he still does not make any real effort to win her back, which would have proven how much she really means to him. Komura's wife leaving him right after the earthquake changes his life just as it has done to the people who were involved in the earthquake. Up to this point, his life had been uncomplicated, and his marriage of five years, he thought, relatively successful. Now, finding himself at loose ends, he embarks on an errand for a colleague. He is to deliver a small box to his friends sister in Kushiro, another part of the country. The journey turns into a kind of pilgrimage, which ends with Komuras coming circuitously to a better understanding of himself. Komura is almost perfectly passive before the pilgrimage, distant from both the world and his own emotions. She has seen, of course, that everything can disappear in an instant, and she has begun to understand what this means to her life. Her leaving forces the same primal awareness on Komura.

In this story Yoshiya responds to the earthquake by searching for his biological father. One night, he tracks his father down, and tails him to a strange neighborhood. Suddenly, the young man finds himself in a landscape as barren as his own heart as he describes this experience "what I was chasing in circles must have been the tail of the darkness inside me" (64). At this point he realized it really did not matter "if the man was his father, or God, or some stranger who just happened to have lost his right earlobe? It no longer made any difference to him and this in itself had been a manifestation, a sacrament" (64).

After realizing that she figures out that the stone in her body is creation of the hate she has inside her for the man she married. (104) Mr. Katagiri is has very low self esteem and its hard for him to understand why is he the one who has to take care of such an important task if it is to take place. He always felt there is no one who cares about if he lives or dies and this frog is asking him to save Tokyo from an earthquake. When Mr. Katagiri asks why he is the one with this responsibility frog simply states "Because, Mr. Katagiri, Tokyo can only be saved by a person like you. And it's for people like you that I am trying to save Tokyo" (104). This proves that it's the lost that need saving, Mr. Katagiri has felt as if he doesn't mean anything to anyone. His existence is unknown to the people. His siblings could care less if he does something great or not. It himself he has to live for. He has to start thinking about himself before others. Indirectly he never gave up hope on Sayoko, and after Sayoko's divorce from Takatsuki, Junpei once again had the opportunity to be with the woman and her child who he loved as his own. When he hears about earthquake hitting Kobe he realizes he can not dread wondering if its right or wrong time to ask Sayoko to marry him or if it was Takatsuki's idea that he should marry Sayoko. He felt after the quake life should not be wasted and enjoyed and lived with the people you love and care for.
