My Goals and Dreams

This decision to return back to school, has been somewhat of a dream of mine. A dream that I kept tossing around but never did anything about, until the day I walked into the Walnut Creek office of the University of Phoenix. As I listened to my Counselor explain in details about the University, which entailed a lot of information. I now know that I need to make a decision that will finally end my search to fulfill dreams.

Cheap University Papers on My Goals and Dreams

As I toss the idea around in my mine, I begin to feel a bit anxious then a rush of fear started to over take me with visions of my not so pleasant days back in school. The days when no one understood what I was going through and I had to figure things out myself. Was I going to allow my High School to break me down or figure some way to make it to graduation, without knowing what my life has in stored for me?

Well I made it to graduation how I don’t quite know but I graduated. My life begins now. What should a person do once they have graduated High School and feel they haven’t learned anything to prepare them for life outside of school? They do what they know and what I knew was how to be a good wife. My mother showed my sisters and me the basic fundamentals of being a wife. So I decided to get married when my then boyfriend Arnold proposed to me a year after I graduated. We were married and had a beautiful baby boy, my life seemed good but I began to feel a bit inadequate when I converse with people. I then started to want more for myself then just being a wife and mother. Don’t get me wrong I was a great wife and mother but I needed more. So I applied into some certified nurses aide program at Hilo Hospital. After receiving a certificate from the program I was hired on at the hospital as a nurse aide. Meanwhile, my marriage was going in the direction of Arnold and me filing for divorce.

Now I have a chance to take control of my life again, and to fulfill my dreams of educating my mind to better my chances in achieving a job so I will be able to support myself and my child.

Living on the Big Island of Hawaii doesn’t give you many opportunities so I decided to relocate to California which I did. My decision was not an easy one because I decided not to take my son away from his father and disrupt his life so I can fulfill mine. I realized no matter what I decided my sons life would be disrupted, but I just wanted it to be the best decision for him.

As I begin to experience California and what it has to offer me I fall into another relationship and the next thing I know I’m doing what I know best being a wife and a mother too now a beautiful baby girl. As time passes, I enroll into Chabot Community College to begin my prerequisite for the registered nurse program. I also work full time on a grave yard shift at Humana Hospital. As for my marriage I began to resent TJ, my husband because he insisted I quit school which I did. As for my marriage, it also ended in divorce.

Here it is a chance to make my dreams become a reality, am I going to jump at the chance to finally fulfill what I have been longing for or let this become another “I should have.” I quickly placed all of my fears into a box in my mind and tied a knot to it. I will follow my own preaching words that I continue to bark at my own children “It is never too late to learn” and with that being said I proceeded with registering into the University of Phoenix to continue my education.

As several days go by, the knot on the box that I have stored in my mind, began to unravel allowing my anxieties as well as my fears to over take me. A vision of how difficult it was back in High School, as I recalled, how I use to freeze during exams, and when I would forget the subject matter of the lectures as well as the lectures itself. It would make it difficult to complete my homework, resulting in a poor grade and being disciplined not only in school but at home.

As I embark on this path, I ask myself. What will I gain? Will I learn better this time around? Will I be able to get the education required to better my career? So why do I want to put myself through this? That is the question I have asked myself over and over again throughout my adult life. The only answer that releases all my fears and anxieties are. This is my dream and I have the opportunity to fulfill it. Face these new challenges with a positive attitude and confidence in myself to Succeed.

I have faced a challenge though it has taken several drafts I have been able to search deeply inside myself and convert my feelings into words to be able to express how I feel in regards to returning to school. It begins to get easier as I continue to realize the possibilities that are out there for me to achieve the goals I set for myself.

As a student attending the University of Phoenix, my personal goal I would like to achieve is to complete all assignments due to receive a passing grade. Another goal is to attend every workshop with enthusiasm and the drive to learn.

Knowing it is up to me, I am in control of the goals I set the only persons’ approval I need is mine.

This essay is actully about a tv show but since there was no Tv catagorys i decided to chose movies since there are 10 Star trek movies.

Star trek is my favourite show, because it shows an ideolistic view of the future, there are so many great characters and great shows.

The first series ever made is star trek, with captain kirk. This show lasted years before they canceled it which was a dumb move.

the enxt series was star trek the animated series which also had captain kirk in it and the crew of the starship enterprise.

Do my essay on why i like Star Trek CHEAP !

They made afew movies between star trek the animated series and the enxt star trek series, star trek the next generation with a brand new crew and new captain, the enterprise d was commanded by captain jean luc picard and that show lasted 7 years. Way more then the original series lasted. the next gen crew were in a total of 4 movies, first Conact being my favourite one because it had the borg, time travel and everything.

The next series was deep space nine featuring captain ben Sicko commanding the station orbiting a wormhole that lead to the beta quadrant. This lasted 7 seasons as well and i would love to see a movie staring the ds crew.

The enxt season was Voyager, which had the first female captain (but not the first female captain in starfleet as some people have said) and it was about a starship that was stranded in the delta quadrant. In the last episode they finally made it back home.

the next series was enterprise, made about one or two years after voyager so trkkies like myself had to wait a long time to see a new series and a new movie. It was set before the federation was formed and the enterprise was the first ship. captain John Archer was the first captain...I kinda feel that this series didnt respect teh shows creator oiginal view it completly rewrote star trek history as we know it but i like the fact that its set closer to modern times.

I watch star trek becxause its a great show and i love it.

In conclusion star trek rocks.

In the two novels ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ and ‘The Bell Jar’ the role of the outsider is explored in depth by the respective authors George Orwell and Sylvia Plath. Both use form, language, structure and style to portray the notion of the outsider. However, the ways these devices are used are very different, allowing for a very different experience being had from reading each book. There are similar themes throughout each novel that help develop the outsider character in each case. Themes of rebellion, interaction, fear, issues of trust and the societies in which the two characters live feature heavily. These themes help the reader identify with Winston Smith’s plight in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ and Esther Greenwood’s in ‘The Bell Jar’.

Both novels have a main character, with whom the reader journeys throughout the novel. As well as this main character there are a number of secondary characters. Through the exchanges between the one primary character (Winston and Esther), and the secondary characters (such as Julia, O’Brien, Buddy and Joan) the reader is given a further insight of the primary characters thoughts and emotions, especially in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ as the third person narrative is used. Each author uses a secondary character that is similar to the primary character in the novel. In ‘The Bell Jar’ there is Joan and Orwell creates the character of Syme in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’. These characters both show a clear indication of what may have happened to the main characters if they had made different choices in life. This is clearly indicated a number of times by Plath when she focuses upon the similarities between Esther and Joan. Plath uses their relationships with Buddy Willard (perhaps that there is something in him that ‘drives women crazy’) as well as the fact that Joan’s room ‘was a mirror image of’ Esther’s. Plath implies through these similarities that it only took a few different influences throughout Esther’s life (perhaps being treated by Dr Nolan rather than Joan’s Dr Quinn), for Esther’s journey to result in a return to society as opposed to Joan’s destination of suicide. This could be seen as being similar to Syme and Winston’s similarities in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’. Where Esther appears successful in recovery, Winston seems to maintain the façade of orthodoxy. In each case if the main character had failed it would have resulted in their death. For Syme the fatal mistake comes in the form of loving the party too much, by standing out form the crowd, being overenthusiastic and over zealous about party ideologies and believing that ‘orthodoxy is unconsciousness’. This theme of doubling is a common literary technique, also used in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood. As well as the obvious ‘mirror’ characters there are others who seem to draw attention to certain traits that the main characters have. In ‘The Bell Jar’ Doreen is one of the characters used to this effect. The fact that the first person narrative is used allows the reader to know exactly what Esther is thinking about Doreen, and maybe gives a hint at the troubles to arise later in the novel with such insinuating sentences as ‘I guess one of my troubles was Doreen’. In the first stages of the novel Doreen is probably one of the main influences in Esther’s life. However, through open dialogue there is very little that Plath reveals about Esther through interaction with Doreen as such. It is far more in Esther’s private thoughts that the reader is able to gain insight. This may be a device used by Plath to try to reflect the fact that Esther can’t express her true thoughts and feelings aloud as they are too unorthodox, thus emphasising the role Esther holds as an outsider.

In ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ there are also many characters that help the reader gain insight into Winston’s thoughts and emotions. However, Orwell, unlike Plath, has chosen to use the third person narrative in his novel. This means that although the reader does have some access to Winston’s thoughts, for example ‘One of these days, thought Winston with sudden deep conviction, Syme will be vaporised’, there is less emotion revealed. Orwell makes more use of dialogue in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ than Plath does in ‘The Bell Jar’ to convey the protagonists views and feelings. In ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ Julia, O’Brien and Mr Charrington are the obvious examples because as a reader we gain insight into Winston’s longing to overthrow the party through the dialogue with these characters, especially Julia. Orwell also employs another structural form to allow the reader access to Winston’s inner monologue; this is Winston’s diary. This confessional format is the equivalent of sections of the book being written in the first person narrative, as they are in ‘The Bell Jar’. This allows the reader to experience the things Winston experiences in a way that could not be achieved except through diary statements such as ‘freedom is the freedom to say two plus two equals four. If that is granted, all else follows’. This, and other statements with similar content would not be revealed through dialogue due to the society that the novel is set in, that is why the confessional episodes are so key. However, although the third person narrative is used, the reader still has a surprising amount of access to Winston’s thoughts and feelings, as opposed to other novels that are narrated in the third person. This links in to the setting of the book and the theme of Big Brother knowing everything about people, including their thoughts. This may be Orwell’s way of showing that Winston is constantly under surveillance due to his unorthodoxy and that Big Brother is constantly watching him because of Winston’s status as an outsider.

One of the themes that relies heavily on the interaction of characters is the issue of trust. In each novel the character that has previously been identified has a main figure of trust and many figures that they mistrust. Both protagonists greatly mistrust the societies in which they live, perhaps escalating their role as an outsider. There are many parallels that may be drawn between the main trust figures who I have identified as O’Brien in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ and Dr Nolan in ‘The Bell Jar’. For one there is a clear link between the figure the protagonist seems to trust the most and what seems to be a great fear for each of the main characters. One of Esther’s main fears in ‘The Bell Jar’ is that of shock treatments. This results from Dr Gordon administering them to her incorrectly. Dr Nolan, Esther’s greatest figure of trust, leads her to the room where her greatest fear awaits. Esther is subjected to her greatest fear in an effort to reintegrate her into society. This summarised form is almost a direct parallel to what occurs in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’. Winston’s greatest fear is that of rats, this supposedly occurs from events in his childhood. O’Brien, Winston’s greatest figure of trust, leads him into the room where his greatest fear awaits (‘room 101’). Winston is also subjected to his greatest fear in an effort to reintegrate him into society. However, although the sequences of events seem to parallel each other the reactions of the two protagonists are somewhat different. Whereas when Winston discovers that it is O’Brien to take him to his torture the reader is told ‘he had always known it’, Esther feels completely shocked and betrayed at the ‘bear faced treachery’ of Dr Nolan because Esther feels that as she had given Dr Nolan her ‘trust on a platter and told her everything’ that she should have been told about the shock treatments the previous evening. Also, O’Brien tells Winston that he had dreamed about room 101 and what would occur in it. The fact that O’Brien knows what Winston has been dreaming about emphasises the idea that Winston is under constant surveillance because of his role as an outsider and also emphasises the magnitude of the totalitarian state of Oceania. Esther receives the same treatment as everyone else whereas Winston has to endure his own personal greatest fear. This seems quite ironic as the party throughout the rest of the novel tries to deny that Winston is an individual but O’Brien actually tells Winston that ‘The worst thing in the world…varies from individual to individual’. O’Brien describes Winston’s fear to him as ‘a form of pressure you cannot withstand, even if you wished to’. Esther on the other hand, who seems, on the surface, less restricted than Winston by her society is treated in the same way as everyone else would have been in 150’s America. As well as feeling betrayed by Dr Nolan not giving her much prior warning about the shock treatments, earlier in the novel it is implied that Esther feels betrayed by Doreen when Doreen spends all her time with Lenny. Winston also is betrayed a second time in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’. This second, and perhaps more significant betrayal is his betrayal by Julia. This is hinted at early on in the novel when Winston states that ‘if they could make me stop loving you, that would be the true betrayal’. In fact Big Brother does succeed in this sense. As readers we do not witness the moment when Julia betrays Winston as we see the action from Winston’s perspective, even though the third person narrative is used. However, the reader does witness Winston’s ultimate betrayal of Julia when he requests his punishment be given to her. This is a very significant point in the novel as makes the reader aware that Winston and Julia have been wrong earlier in the novel when they have believed, in reference to the party that ‘they can make you say anything anything but they can’t make you believe it. They can’t get inside you.’ This statement seems to conflict even with the narrative form used in the novel. As Orwell has used the third person narrative to recount everything from Winston’s point of view it implies that the party have indeed got ‘inside’ Winston.

Cheap Custom Essays on How do Plath and Orwell portray the character of the outsider in ‘Nineteen-eight-four’ and ‘The Bell Jar’?

As well as the trust figures in each novel there are also issues of mistrust. Broadly speaking Esther does not seem to trust any of the men that she interacts with or society and Winston also mistrusts the society that he has found himself in. Winston does not trust the ideologies of Big Brother and the party, although he does seem to trust Goldstein’s theories and concepts. Esther seems to feel mistrust towards men, not helped by men like Marco and Dr Gordon who seem to simply act in a way contrary to how they should. For example Dr Gordon who is supposedly helping Esther to recover simply causes her harm by administering shock treatment’s incorrectly.

The societies in which the two protagonists live are key to the view of them as outsiders. Winston resides in a totalitarian state; set thirty-five years after Orwell was writing. Orwell wrote the novel as a response to the societies present in the post-war era and ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’ is a chilling warning of how nineteen-eighties London could have manifested itself. In Winston’s society everything he thinks, says or does is affected by the society in which he lives, so in this way he is still a part of society and not an outsider. Such rules as ‘Thoughtcrime is death’ still apply to him even though he would prefer to not be a part of his society. However, although he is in some respects still part of his society he does not truly believe in the values of the society in which he lives. Winston is an outsider because he is constantly striving to escape his society. In stark contrast to this, Esther longs to fit into her society but simply can’t. Plath set ‘The Bell Jar’ in nineteen-fifties America, as it is said to be a semi-autobiographical novel and this is when Plath would have been the same age as her character Esther. The society in which Esther lives doesn’t affect her innermost thoughts and feelings and often not her actions, she is isolated in he ‘bell jar’, stewing in her own ‘stale air’. However, Esther, like Winston is not completely separate from society and is not entirely an outsider. She goes through treatment to try to make her fit into society more than she seems to. Esther seems to be a fully functional member of society at the beginning of the novel when she is on the scholarship in New York and it is also implied, as it is with Winston in ‘Nineteen-eighty-four’, that she returns to societies norms and values at the end of the novel when she leaves Belsize.

Rebellion is another key theme in the novel, as through rebellion the protagonists seem to emphasise their outsider role. Esther can be seen as a rebel in word thought and deed whereas Winston and Julia are thoughtcriminals, although they do their best to maintain a façade of orthodoxy. Esther does not conform to what is expected of her whereas Winston and Julia do try to. Esther does not enjoy her time in New York, she attempts suicide and she longs desperately to lose her virginity in the form of a one-night stand. These are all things that the society she lives in would not approve of or understand. In contrast to this, Winston and Julia are constantly striving to appear to fit into society. However, Winston’s life is not free of rebellious acts. The fact that he dares to remember information that the party wants him to forget is enough to sentence him to death even though other party members may see the information he retains as insignificant. A prime example of this is the newspaper clipping that Winston attaches much significance to and Julia simply views as insignificant. Julia, in her way is also rebellious. She has made a promise to the party to remain chaste but she is a ‘rebel from the waist down’ by sleeping with a number of party members. As well as Winston daring to remember, seeing potential in the proles is another indication of his rebellion.

The final major theme that is common to the two novels is that of fear. As well as the major fear that is linked to the key trust figure as I mentioned earlier there are other things that the two protagonists are afraid of. For Esther she seems scared simply to stay alive and also that she may not be able to get rid of the ‘millstone’ of her virginity. The other major fear she suffers is that she may stay trapped in her bell jar for the rest of her life. Winston suffers different fears. As well as the major fear of rats there are also the fears of Big Brother, of the Thought Police and having an endless life subject to party rules. In each case a common fear is of their current society and the way they are living. Both fear the monotony of the life they are leading at the moment and the prospect of not being able to escape their current situation.

Waste Minimisation

Waste is not necessarily rubbish! People dispose of material as waste only when they think it is no longer useful, or if they believe it cannot be reprocessed economically. If an ecologically sustainable future is to be assured, Australian’s need to conserve all their resources, especially non-renewable resources, and energy.

On average each year, each Australian generates about 800kg of industrial, commercial and domestic waste. Most ends up in landfill sites. Potentially hazardous waste generated in the Brisbane area alone each year fills 000 trucks. In addition, there is demolition waste, radioactive waste, sewage sludge, agricultural waste, mining wastewaters, and waste of energy and water.

What is waste minimisation?

Write my Essay on Waste Management for me

Waste minimisation aims at eliminating waste before it is produced and reducing its quantity and toxicity. Waste prevention is the primary goal.

Waste includes unwanted end products of manufacturing, packaging, items of metal, paper, plastic and glass, chemical substances, and vegetable and garden waste. Pollution of water, and air and land occurs from the production and disposal of wastes. Indirectly, humans also generate toxic and hazardous waste through the use of everyday items like detergents, solvents, pesticides and bleached paper.

Better planning and management can minimise the need for landfill waste disposal.

Why minimise waste?

A combination of world population increase and high consumption of products in the developed world has created a global waste problem. Affluence has created effluence. The rate of waste generation is now estimated to be greater than the capacity of the environment to absorb.

I surveyed one hundred people to see which car manufacturers people prefer. I surveyed friends, family, and even strangers to conduct this survey. I find this survey fascinating because I want to find out what people really like about these car manufacturers. Surveying can help in numerous of ways. One, you can predict what the majority of the people prefer. Two, what is it about these cars these countries produce that they like. Finally, what age groups, rank, gender, and race these people prefer.

Working at a restaurant really helped me find most of the people to conduct this survey, most of which are fellow employees of mines. I interviewed as many people as I could at work and then I went to my family members. Sure enough, family members and employees are more cooperative than strangers. I gathered some of my information on the internet using chat sites. People in the chat rooms are too protective of their identity. They always reply with why or for what reason am I asking. If it sounds reasonable, then they will give me the info I need. If they find something suspicious then they ignore me or rudely brush me away.

As you have noticed, most of the people I surveyed are Asians and there are other races as well, but very few. I conclude my opinion that most of the people surveyed are teenagers and young adults. This group preferred the “faster” cars such as corvettes and vipers, which most are Hispanics and Caucasian, and trucks. The younger group of Asians prefer more luxurious German cars, especially females, while some males prefer faster cars. Younger age groups like faster car for racing. Older people prefer luxurious or classier cars.

My final findings shows that most people prefer Japanese cars. To my surprise, Japanese cars out numbered German cars. It seems that Japanese cars are more reliable than other imported and American cars. According to rank, Japan, German, American, Great Britain, and then Korean. I only found one car for Korean cars and three for Great Britain, a very small quantity according to the other three countries.

Our group’s question is “Is Sophocles’ Oedipus the King a cathartic play, as defined by Aristotle? Why or why not?”

According to Aristotle, “… the purpose of tragedy was to work a cathartic, or purging, effect on the audience, to “arouse pity and terror” so that these negative emotions could be drained from the soul. The tragic heroes were warnings, not models; the spectators were instructed to seek modest lives and not aim too high” (M&P, 6-64).

I believe the play Oedipus the King does in fact meet the criteria of a cathartic as defined by Aristotle.

The play’s “… two themes the relation between humans and gods and the hero’s moral dilemmas” (R1, 56) evoke one to arouse one’s pity and terror for the hero and the gods. More specifically, pity for the human attempting to act morally; and fear from the gods as they destroy Oedipus (the king). The result of Oedipus realizing “… that humans, even kings, are fated to suffer” (R1, 57), makes the audience realize the same. This play could act as a warning, as suggested by Aristotle, that even though a person acts morally they may still be destroyed.

Cheap University Papers on Oedipus the King

With all this being kept in mind, Oedipus the King surely measures up as a cathartic play.

I believe that Oedipus the King is a cathartic play for the following reasons. Aristotle defined a cathartic play as making the audience feel pity and terror, in order to drain it from their soul. Oedipus the King certainly does this.

Yes, I believe Oedipus the King to be a carthartic play. Carthartic plays have the effect of pity and terror so the negative emotions could be drained from the soul. Oedipus the King does this.

TAIPEI - Starbucks Corp., the worlds top coffee shop chain, said on Friday it is planning a big push into China, confident the tea-drinking nation will develop a taste for lattes and cappuccinos.

Do my essay on Financial CHEAP !

The company has a bold ambition to expand its stores in Asia to 6,000 from around 600, with a large number of those opening in the greater China region.

A substantial number of those will certainly be in greater China, but whether its half or more its too early to say, Starbucks President Peter Maslen told Reuters in an interview.

China, known more for its penchant for tea than for double tall lattes, currently has 6 Starbucks, most of them in the wealthier cities of Beijing and Shanghai.

But Starbucks is confident it can repeat the success it has seen in Taiwan, one of its fastest growing markets in Asia. The trademark green and white mermaid features in more than 100 outlets in Taiwan, where Starbucks opened its first store in 18.

If you look at who the Taiwanese customers are, and who the Chinese customers are, emotionally, they are the same, Maslen said.

While Chinas entry to the World Trade Organization will step up competition, the company said it was ready for battle.

We are setting our own internal expectation on a much bigger opportunity in greater China, much bigger opportunity than we originally thought, said Howard Schultz, Starbucks chairman and chief global strategist.

Competition is not that unhealthy because it expands the marketplace and it also creates an opportunity for us to differentiate ourselves. We welcome that.

EXPANSION PLAN INTACT

Despite a still fragile recovery in the global economy, Starbucks said the current economic malaise would not sour thirsts for its beverage.

Starbucks Coffee Japan Ltd, a unit of the Seattle-based parent, reported last month a 55 percent drop in net profits for April-September and said it would scale back expansion plans there.

The pullback is seen as temporary by the top bean counters at Starbucks.

In the last 0 years, in good and bad times, Starbucks has been able to continue to not only grow and expand, but to do it quite profitably, said Schultz.

Since beginning a push outside of North America in 16, Starbuck has grown to more than 6,000 stores worldwide from 15 in 1, when it went public. It plans to expand to 10,000 by the end of 005 and has set a long-term goal of more than 5,000 shops.

But Schultz said expansion to gain market share would not come at the expense of shareholders value.

We are not interested as a company in growing in a way that will dilute the integrity of our earnings, he said.

Nor was expansion in Asia and Europe an indication of slower growth in its U.S. market.

We are a long, long way from approaching saturation in the United States, he said. The markets like Taiwan, like Hong Kong, like Shanghai, like Europe are in the infant stages. Its very early days for the growth and development of the company outside of America.

I will never forget the moment when I met Thorin son of Dart first time. I was having a night ride along the forest rout full of mystic shadows when suddenly I encountered the person who was going to become the only friend for me during long years of war and despair that flooded soon the peaceful lands of Middle Terrain.

Although Thorin was the first dwarf I have ever seen in my life I must admit that even at that age I have already been full of disgust and prejudice to this race. The fact that I treated them as being callous, loutish and sullen was mostly due to my relatives’ influence as it was the only opinion that all of us shared to the same extend. Nevertheless it did not take much time for me to reject all these prejudices. Close communication on long journeys to unknown and strange countries and a hand of help in the minutes of defeat brought it home to me that I could hardly find such a good friend even among hobbits.

Consequently it became impossible for me to imagine myself apart from that stocky figure with a long dark beard after long evenings spent together near a campfire or fighting alongside on the battlefields. I realized that the glittering flame in his dark brown eyes meant nothing except strong feeling of honor, dignity and self-respect. Thorin showed no arrogance being a hereditary blacksmith but his horny covered with burns hands were the clear evidence that he was trying hard to become the best one. I would always remember his harsh voice that never called for mercy and his funny attempts to sound polite chatting with females.

Finally, having become as good friends as a dwarf and a hobbit could be, it did happen that we had lost each other on the full of troubles roads of war although I have no doubt that we would be searching each other as long as the feeling of friendship and fellowship breathe in our souls.

Mrs. Younger “Mama” hands down is the character I most admire for three reasons.

First, at a time were African-Americans were look upon as lower class citizens, Mrs. Younger a strong black mother in a house hold consisting of three other adults always stayed level headed, had a wonderful way of finding good in bad situations, and helping everyone else understand that there is always two sides to every story.

Second, with little to no education and limited resources as a widowed mother, Mrs. Younger always carried herself with the highest level of respect and class. She showed a lot of pride and was a grandmother who wanted to make sure that her grandson had the best and what every it took for that to happen, mama was willing to do that for her family. Mrs. Younger was not a selfish person but want everyone to kno that it does not matter what peole think about you as long as you know you are trying really hard.

Last, at a time when it would have been easier to be upset with “Walter Lee” because of the insurance check, she turned that into the perfect opportunity to let him become the man of the house, as his father once was, which holds more value than any level of education one could receive in high school or college.

Cheap Custom Essays on Which character in A Raisin in the Sun do you most/least admire? Why?

In closing, the reason for African-American families and society of larger being so much closer during the time of this movie, was a direct reflections of strong women such as Mrs. Younger that had the foresight to understand their role in the family. That place usually was in the home with the children, but when her wisdom was needed, African-American females of that time period understood what the word homemaker really meant. Understanding, myself is the first step, I must take before I can walk with my family in unity.

My first thought to this article was what in the world was this male or female’s motive to

do such a thing? I thought these kind shootings were over with; I thought wrong. It is very sad

and discouraging that you can’t be in front of your house talking with a friend and having to

worry about someone passing by and is looking for someone just to shoot. You got to be one sick

person to do such a thing. The article did not say if it was gang related or if it did have a motive.

Maybe it did, but if it did it would of probably stated that in the paper. A neighbor also said that

it was not the first time that has ever happened. I would be in my house all the time if I lived in

that neighborhood. I would be really cautious and aware what’s going on around me. But it is

really hard to say that because your not really aware of bad thing happening like this in your life

because you have better things to worry about like supporting your family and doing your own

thing.

Living in a bad part of town has the most likely possibility to get crimes. It’s sad that some

people have no choice but to live in those types of neighborhood because of financial situations.

But what is there to do? More police? I don’t think it would stop much. Someone can still go out

and do some violent crimes and have the chance to get away. It takes like 5 minutes sometimes for

police to get to the scene and catch the criminal. But by the time the police are there, the criminals

are gone.Crimes are going to keep on happening whether we like it or not. And we just have to

watch out for it because we really cant take it into our own hands unless your one real pissed off

person. These people that like to live off crimes and gang bang are worth less to our human

existence. We should have harsher punishment for violent crimes and maybe that will lower some

crime rate

The Power Of Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale was born on May 1, 180. She is most remembered as a pioneer of nursing and a reformer of hospital sanitation methods. She was a victorian women and in the era in which she lived it was almost impossible to gain any recognition as a scholar and an expert in her field. She accomplished this feat with the use of power. The purpose of this paper is to explore the avenues of power that she used in order to cause the changes in nursing that she believed were so important.

When Nightingale was a child, she fought with her mother for the right to study mathmatics. Her mother held firm to the belief that girls were only supposed to study poetry and philosophy, this would give them the background to make a good bride and be able to hold intelligent conversasions at parties. Nightingale fough against this and finally convinced her father to allow her to study mathmatics. When she turned of age, she again shocked her family by enrolling in a nursing program at Kaiserworth, Germany. Most people believed that a nurses role should only be filled by common women and prostitutes. Nighingale made it a personal priority to change this image( Baly,57).

She spent three years in Germany training to become a nurse, after this she recruited a small number of untrained women and took them to a British military hospital in Scutari, where she trained them and taught them her philosophies of nursing. She believed that fresh air, water and sunshine were critical to the recovery of her patients. Efficiant drainage of wounds, cleanliness and a healthy diet were extremely important, in the days when these methods were not taught. She beleived that moving a patients bed to give them a better view was a nurses responsibility, along with the responsibility to provide a healthy diet and to record what was eaten daily. Her emphasis on cleanliness of bed linens and patients was scoffed at by the medical profession but proved to be an innovation for the medical field in the future. She always held nurses responsible for the health of their patients, this included not only cleanliness, but also the environment in which the patients were healing. Noisy hallways and rooms were not allowed. Unruly family members would be asked to leave. She believed that if she changed a patients environment she could eventually bring about changes in the patient( Chitty, 50 ).

It has often been said that Nightingale refused to accept the germ theory, this theory stated that all illness came directly from germs. Florence Nightingale believed in germs she just added to this theory by explaining that germs were not the only thing that caused illness. Over and over again her letters and essays laid down the law about the sterilization of instruments, in order to kill germs, however, she also believed that the environment of the patient played a crucial part in the healing process and that this factor should never be overlooked.

Sterilization and aseptic technique came slowly to London. In 1886, steam sterilization of dressings was pioneered in Germany and sterile rubber gloves for operations were first used in 180. But as late as 1 there were still surgeons that still performed abdominal surgery “ the aniseptic way, dousing bare hands, swabs and instruments with lysoform and often smoking cigarretes while performing surgery”(Cope,168). Nightingale taught her nurses that this method was incorrect and 4

insisted that the nurses under her instruction uses a correct method.

By the time Nightingale composed her polar area diagram she had extensive knowledge in nursing and mathmatics. It was this knowledge that her power in the nursing community was based on. After training in Germany and spending some time nursing the wounded in the Crimean war he had made extensive political contacts and these also played a role in her political power. She used the contacts to no only improve the medical fielsd but also to critsize them. It was her critical nature that made her the enemy of many doctors and medical communities.

After the war Nightingale realized that many soldiers had died not of there original wounds but from nocosomial infections. It was at this time that she decided to use her power to change some things in the medical field. Her political contacts did not always agree with her, especially if her knowledge seemed to upset traditions that were held in the medical field. As explained earlier, she believed that the environment played an essintial role in the body’s ability to heal. If an environment was not clean the germs and bacteria would grow and contaminate the body. This was a direct contradiction to the beliefs that were held by the majority of doctors(Goldie,74).

Nightingale founded the first school of nursing that based it’s ideas and education on her methods. It was in this way that her knowledge and power had a major influence on nurses everywhere. Most nursing schools are based on her model and subsequently hold on to her beliefs that environment plays such a huge role in the body’s healing abilities. Time and time again the medical community tried to hush Nightingale, but through her

5 political contacts she was able to make her ideas known.

Her mathmatics abilities provided her the knowledge to compose the first statistical analysis of the medical community. In her Polar- area diagram, she meticulosly plotted all deaths resulting form nocosomial infection. It was officially known as the Diagram of the causes of Mortality in the Army in the East. It showed that most of the deaths of British soldiers in the Crimean war died of sickness rather than wounds suffered on the battle field. It also showed that the death rate was higher in the first year of the war, than after the sanitary commisioners changed their policies and gave inspections to improve hygiene in the camps and in the hospitals(Smith,1).

The government would not allow her to publish he most damning statistics which showed that hospital conditions were the main cause of death, but through her political contats she was allowed to publish the diagram. She tried to support her case for better hygine by using the published army figures to show that the death rate decreased after the sanitary commision cleaned up the hospitals. However, her opponents claimed that the reduction in the death rate resulted from other changes that were made at the same time(Smith,158).

Florence Nightingale’s knowledge and power in the medical field changed the way nursing is done today. Her political influence and power were directly based on her knowledge and experience of the subject. Eventhough her contributions were not recognized at the time, they are understood now and appreciated by nurses all over the world. We, as nursing students have her to thank for changing the atitudes held about nursing and and or introducing the idea that germs are not the only thing that causes infections and that we, as nurses, have a responsibility toward our patients to not only insure a clean environment, but a well lit, and peaceful and comfortable surrounding.

Philosophy of Being

Why do I exist…What is my purpose?

What is the raison detre?” Taking note that you are the only one looking out from behind your eyes and that you are the only one perceiving the world through your point of view, then how could anything exist without you? But you know, or at least you think you know, that life will go on without you and that your life may have no consequence to this planet. No one would ever want to believe that their life had no meaning. With these never-ending, circular riddles that play out in one’s mind, the hunt for the reason for existence, soon becomes the very reason to exist. There is no doubt that this question has plagued mankind since its commencement. The answer to this puzzling question entails deep philosophical and ontological implications. The purpose of human life is an ideal that transcends the mundane goals of human existence. Could it be possible that there might be more than one purpose of our existence? And do we possess the freedom to change these purposes? It is certain that man’s purpose in life is not determined by fatalism or determinism, both which totally negate freedom. Each individual must follow their own path, and fill his own being with experiences unique to only him. Therefore, our purpose as human beings is affected by the choices and acts of volition that we make throughout our life. All of these choices eventually contribute to create our own genuine uniqueness.

By our very nature as human beings, we seek truth, which is contingent upon one’s knowledge. As one begins to attain a greater knowledge of himself, the being called I, one attains more freedom. Thus, freedom implies knowledge, for as the more knowledge acquired in the discovery of the being called I, the more freedom one possesses. As humans, we seek to constantly change, because by our very nature we are not complete. This change implies that we have freedom with which we seek our own totality. Change, by its very nature, then implies hope.

Cheap Custom Essays on why do we exist?

As humans, we are not satisfied with what we are experiencing so we constantly want to change. Consequently, this hope implies faith, and this metaphysical concept integrates the idea that man, by his very nature, hopes to better himself. We, as human beings, seek to better ourselves by trying to gain the acceptance of other people in an effort to complete ourselves. The only problem is that man will never find the acceptance of enough people to complete himself.

Man by his very nature is incomplete; therefore, man must go outside of himself to complete himself. Consequently, man innately wanting other people to accept him involves the concept of love. Man uses love to establish relationships with others in an effort to try to complete himself. Love is the sharing one’s self with another person, and it exists only to allow man to find the totality within himself. Since man cannot satisfy the entirety of himself within himself, he searches for relationships in an attempt to share a piece of his being with another. Yet, man’s search is unending; therefore, making love limitless and making one’s struggle to complete himself interminable.

As stated before, man’s purpose in life is merely to strive to complete himself, the being called “I.” Consequently, man struggles in life to experience humanity, transforming energies that are less than love into love, for love is central to all human existence. In doing so, one raises the vibration of human experience through one’s consciousness and love.

This metaphysical concept of love leads to an understanding of oneself, which can and will eventually lead to an apparent comprehension of those around oneself. Humans are composed of three parts the physical, psychological, and the psychic. It is only through love that one can satisfy and complete these three parts. In order to complete oneself, one needs love; therefore, one cannot find all of himself in himself, because then he would not need truth, change, hope faith, and love, which are essential to the essence of the being called “I.”

Since one will never completely discover himself, one will never be able to grasp his apparent purpose in life. Despite his struggles attempting to find comfort in relationships with other people through love, one will never be able to fulfill his purpose of existence. One’s purpose in life is impossible to grasp, but it can be partially experienced in one’s search for self-completion. One exists to complete those around him in the same way that they do for him. It is in this interdependent coexistence of human beings where love and harmony arise to become an essential part of living. In conclusion, the eternal search for oneself not only contributes to fulfill the purpose of one’s existence, but also to the fulfillment of humanity’s purpose.

Nowadays, Internet is commonly regarded as the most widely used source and the fastest way to exchange information and knowledge all over the world. However, the freedom and democracy on Internet, being one of its greatest beauties and drawing features, is apparently abused by the population online. Pornography and hate literature are commonly used to lure Internet surfers¡¯ attention and to generate profits. Representing the rights of the public and the power of a country while owning and operating the Internet, the government has the absolute responsibility to censor the internet so as to protect its own citizens from harmful and false information, thus in order to prevent any possible decay of social and moral values, though the extent of censorship should be carefully measured to ensure the freedom of speaking of people.

Since the invention of ARPANET in 16 by the Department of Defenses Advanced Research Project Agency in United States, Internet has developed tremendously during the past half century with the improvement in modern technology with government sponsoring the researching program. It had formerly been made only for military and research purposes, where in 174, the general public gets its first vague hint of how networked computers can be used in daily life as the commercial version of the ARPANET goes online. Hence it is quite obvious that without the financial investment and political support from the government, Internet, being such a new technological invention at that time would never achieve as great a success as what it has achieved by today; it is apparently wrong to say governments did not build neither did they own the Internet. As a result, being counted as partially a property of the government, Internet should absolutely under government¡¯s control.

Besides to exchange information and knowledge and to facilitate communication, the most important role of Internet is to enrich people intellectually. This requires a clean and abundant source of information on the cyberspace that is provided to the public; it should be apparently free of indecency and obscenity that may cause any social problems, which eventually attributes to the decay of moral values. Human beings live in communities where easy access to indecency stimulates many people to adopt these lower moral values, as seemingly it is quite normal and perfectly okay to do so; the idea of Everybody does so... and Everybody says so... exerts a detrimental influence on people¡¯s minds and that is what people are libeled to believe when the exposure to indecency becomes so common.

What draws even more concerns of ours is of the children. We all know that children can easily be scarred and manipulated by all kinds of information. Parents can have some control over which books their children read as they can easily tell what the books are about; they do not have worry that their children will turn a page and be confronted with obscenities or other forms of indecency. While with the Internet, there is a whole different scenario. Anyone can flick a page and be presented with porn, denigration, discrimination, fraud and misinformation. As parenting is not only about chaining a child to a parental censor but about creating a safe environment for children to grow up in at the same time, an uncensored Internet is apparently not a safe environment for children.

Help with essay on .¡°Governments did not build the Internet, they don¡¯t own it, and they cannot control it; they will have to learn to live with this.¡± What¡¯s your view on Internet censorship.

cheap essay writing service

Due to the above reasons, it is my opinion that the flow of information should be filtered from anything that contradicts any of the abovementioned reasonable purposes. This includes filtering indecent expressions and obscene materials from access to the Internet. As a result, only the government has the power to take such actions so as to ensure the Internet is not over polluted by indecent garbage.

However, it is very difficult to take modest steps in this sensitive issue of Internet censorship. Some people may say that certain information on the net, which might be viewed as obscene or indecent, are actually useful and helpful to people who are mature enough. This includes those obtained from adult sites. Though young people are not ready to get access to such information that may lead to their moral decay, mature adults certainly do not encounter the same problem. However they may be banned from acquire what they need from the net due to the possible existence of government censorship.

Moreover, as community standards vary from community to community, it is not possible to find a guideline for the decisions of what is acceptable to be made upon; neither is it easy to be implemented. Furthermore, nobody is able to take full responsibility on such issues. Some people may argue that teaching children to deal with indecencies may shield them better and prepare them for the real world. And that the rights of free speak should never be violated.

Yet that does not mean that we can do nothing about the existing and possibly occurring problems on net; government censorship is still necessary at this point of time and may have to go on for a certain period of time. In order to make sure desirable results can be seen, what seems to be necessary is the corporation and communication between the government and Internet surfers. General guidelines of censorship can be discussed and decided with efforts of both parties to reach a compromise. Feedback sites and forums can be set up to serve such purposes online.

Eventually, the issue of Internet censorship is always controversial as the interests and concerns of different persons can never be the same as others; it can only be eased with internet surfers carrying out their social responsibilities. I think for government to step into the problem currently and help censor the accessibility of certain websites containing things such as adult materials is a modest measurement of control over Internet.

CHAPTER 1

From Rosie to Lucy

The major question arising from this chapter had to do with whether or not the way women were portrayed on television was the cause or result of the culture at that time. It was established that neither is correct, as historians have to look at many other factors. The way women were seen changed drastically from World War II to the Roaring Twenties. Ideals changed as Rosie the Riveter, an important heroine in World War II for leaving her house to join the workforce, and all her virtues took a backseat to the cult of domesticity and the notion that once again, women belonged in the home. While the number of women in jobs remained the same after WWII, the jobs did not. Women took less important jobs in more subordinate roles. The need for labor hadn’t changed; the mentality had. Before, women seen in the workforce were considered strong and independent, yet at the same time helping their homes and families. Women, who were able to balance both work and home were happier, more identified people. Without a job, women felt they had no identity, they were terribly bored. In Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique, women confessed that they felt an unnecessary feeling of guilt whenever they went out to work. What kind of society was causing women to feel discontent with themselves? A society with shows like I Love Lucy and Father Knows Best. Women were placed in secondary roles, not as important as the breadwinning husbands. Although, in I Love Lucy, Lucy tries many crazy schemes to prove the independence of women and their ability to bring home the money, the cult of domesticity is soon restored. It is unfortunate that the comical situation is a woman trying to prove the worth modern day people know she has. Is the media a manipulating evil, persuading women to feel guilty for being strong-willed and independent? Or does society say that women’s jobs are in the home and that’s it? With a constantly changing world, it is a little bit of both, both aspects influencing the other.

Schizophrenia is a serious brain illness that causes changes in how you think, feel, and behave. It is perhaps the most puzzling and disabling clinical syndrome. Schizophrenia most often corresponds to the popular conceptions to madness or lunacy (Nevid 000). The illness strips the mind of intimate connections between thoughts and emotions and replaces it with distorted perceptions, false beliefs, and illogical ideas. Some people think that it is the disease of having a split personality, which is not true.

There are many common symptoms of schizophrenia. Research has found that both positive and negative symptoms exist. Some common symptoms are delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking, problems in thinking, lack of motivation, moving slowly, and social isolation, lack of interest or initiative, change in affect (Csernansky 00). The positive symptoms are delusions- false beliefs that are not logical and have no basis in reality, and hallucinations- hearing or seeing things that are not real. Other senses such as touch, taste, or smell may also be affected. Negative symptoms include disorganized thinking, abnormal behavior, and speech- jumping from one topic to another. A person with schizophrenia may also experience problems concentrating and remembering details of life, lack of motivation to eat, bathe, or change clothing.

Problems relating to others and showing emotion because of change in affect, moving as little as possible, social isolation from the outside world and lack of interest or motivation

are often common in theses patients (Navid 00).

Schizophrenia usually develops in late adolescence or early adulthood. The average age for the first schizophrenic episode is experienced in the early or mid-twenties. Most common cases of schizophrenia start with what is called the prodromal phase, which is the period of deterioration. The prodramal phase is characterized by difficulty in meeting requirements of daily living and of daily responsibilities. Over time the person’s behavior becomes more eccentric and absurd and psychotic symptoms become visible in the patient many call this the acute phase. Residual phase is known to follow the acute stage where the behavior returns to how it started in the prodromal phase. The patient continues to have impaired thinking and a lack of apathy for others. Many harbor strange beliefs of telepathy which make it difficult for them to live in society and function how they are expected to by others. Rarely if ever do patients return to normal behavior and more commonly they have continued patterns of the acute phases.

The exact cause of schizophrenia is unknown. A brain chemical imbalance, brain disease or injury, or genetic predisposition may cause it. It is important to remember that it is a psychiatric problem that is not the patient’s fault, the parents’ fault, or a demonic pocession. Stress does not cause schizophrenia; stress may make the symptoms worse. Major stressful situations may trigger some symptoms of schizophrenia (Whitehorn 00). Some examples include loss of a job, divorce or break up of a relationship, or serious financial problems. People with Schizophrenia can also become depressed. Having depression increases the risk that the person with schizophrenia may commit suicide. The depression can be treated to ease the illness of the patient.

There is no known cure for schizophrenia (Nevid 000). Treatment for the illness is often multifaceted; incorporating pharmacological, psychological, and rehabilitative approaches (Nevid 000). Out of the research that I have read and understood, there is a basic treatment plan is very important for the patient. I have summarized it as the” the three steps to wellness”. Step 1 is to take the medications to reduce or eliminate symptoms. Medication must be taken daily to work effectively and help the patient function better. Step is to talk to a counselor and to attend a support group to learn skills to cope with the symptoms of the illness. A counselor may be a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, nurse, or rehabilitation therapist (Whitehorn 00). Step three is to structure day to day life and living arrangements to reduce stress and to provide safety for the patient. Attending a day treatment program and living in a supportive house may also provide the structure a patient suffering from schizophrenia may need by offering planned activities, teaching basic living skills, and modeling appropriate behavior. Talking with peers and the counselor at support groups may help the patient understand and solve many of the problems they are facing (Gunasekara 00).

There are medications used for treating schizophrenia labeled Antipsychotics. New “atypical medications tend to have fewer side effects than the “typical” or older group of antipsychotic medications. These medications are not addictive. Medications seem to relieve the symptoms common with schizophrenia. The most commonly antipsychotic drugs used are phenothiazines chlorpromazine (Thorazine), thioridazine (mellaril), trifluoperazine (stelazine), and fluphenazine (prolixin), and haloperidol (Haldol). No one knows exactly how these drugs work, but they seem to block the dopamine receptors in the brain. The reduced dopamine activity seems to ease the acute signs of schizophrenia, such as the positive symptoms. When certain chemicals in your brain are not balanced you may not have the symptoms. Medications change the levels of these chemicals in your brain to help relieve the patient’s symptoms (Whitehorn 00). When brain chemicals are balanced the patient will feel better, think more clearly, and function more normally. It may take the patients body a while to adjust to medication in its system. The human body and the brain require time to adjust to the changes that the medication causes. At first, the patient may experience uncomfortable side effects. These side effects often get better and with time the body and brain adjust to the medication. Medication itself is not sufficient in meeting the needs of a patient with schizophrenia. Drug therapy must be accompanied with some type of pschoeducational program to help the patient learn to cope with everyday activities. The patient and health care provider talk and decide the medication that is best for the specific patient (Gunasekara 00).

Many patients experience side effects, but they are manageable. If the patient has side effects, it is important that the patient does not stop taking the medication because the symptoms are likely to return. It is important that the patient talks to the health care provider about the side effects that are being experienced and the provider may adjust the dose or change the medication to help lessen the side effects (Csernansky 00). Common side effects of Atipsychotic medications depend on what kind of medication the patient is taking. Side effects of atypical antipsychotic medications may include fatigue, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, muscle stiffness, spasms, or cramps, low blood pressure, tremors, facial tics, difficulty with movement, restlessness, and weight gain (Whitehorn 00). The side effects of typical antipsychotic medications are the same as with atypical with a few added, such as lack of spontaneous speech, emotional expression, interest in activities excessive restlessness, and sleepiness.

The most important thing for the patient is to take their medications as prescribed, see the health care provider regularly, and to watch for warning sign of a relapse. It is important for the patient to continue to take their medication, even if they are feeling better. Going off the medication will cause the symptoms to return. The health care provider will decide when the patient is ready to stop (Whitehorn 00). The health care provider will talk with the patient to evaluate the patient’s wellness. The health care provider may also do blood test and other physical evaluations to monitor the response to the medication. The counselor will help the patient to learn coping skills during individual or group sessions. If the patient notice any signs of relapse, it is important that they continue to take their medication and contact their health provider as soon as possible. Warning signs of relapse include hallucinations, excessive fear, and problems functioning. It is essential for the patient to develop a relapse prevention plan with the health care provider (Csernansky 00). Knowing what steps to take in advance if the patient begins to experience symptoms will help in the recovery (Nevid 000).

As part of any server consolidation project and its related TCO calculations, it is imperative that the management framework of the server environment is also taken into account to add logical relevance to the cost calculations. It is commonly understood and accepted that most of the cost benefit from consolidations comes from reductions in on-going operational costs. As such, it is our belief that a general understanding of the management framework needs to be clearly established, as part of any consolidation project.

The move from a fully distributed server environment to a fully consolidated or a hybrid solution, reduces the need for a distributed systems management organizations. In theory, a single management organization would suffice, however, in practice a dual organization strategically placed, is a more functionally effective and safer approach. Issues such as additional costs for shift work, efficiency loss due to out-of-hours workload, and cost of communication lines can be minimized with a dual organization approach while at the same time gaining the benefit of a resilient and redundant fallback organization in the event of a failure in the other.

These Systems Management Organizations (SMO) should be responsible to provide a management framework that proactively and reactively notifies system engineers of failures, capacity issues, traffic issues, virus attacks and other transient events, as well as the operational services required to ensure efficient day-to-day server operations from a redundant centralized environment.

Use of a quasi-centralized SMO to manage global server environment has the potential to provide a number of other benefits

Cheap Custom Essays on Server consolidation

• Efficient Communications Integration of systems management and will increase the facilitation of communications, escalations, and enhance sharing of information, resulting in better, more efficient service to end-users

• Reduced Staffing Levels Leveraging shared resources, including management, administration, and operations staff.

• Centralization Using Best Practice Processes to improve standardization of processes and documentation

• Leverage centralized facilities and infrastructure

• Tighter service integration

• Global leverage Utilizing shared knowledge and experiences from global operations.

• Cost reductions and improved services

There are multiple options as how the SMO can be constructed. In the event that the employed operational model will be a consolidated hosted model, i.e. consolidation of the server environment to a few strategically placed hosting facilities, there are two options;

• Placing an SMO within a hosting facility

• Constructing an SMO external to a hosting facility

Prior to describing the construction and service components of the SMO, it is important that we looks at the common denominator of both the options shown above, namely the hosting facility. Presumably the hosting facility will be outsourced, however, even if the facility will be constructed and owned by client, the proceeding section can still serve as a basis of understanding of what a hosting facility should entail.
